I was honestly quite shocked to see how much people let religion dictate their life. It feels like something out of a fiction story to me, never met a person like this in real life. I've seen a lot of crazy things, but a person who honestly responds to "what's your most fun thing in life" with "worshiping god" made me realize just what really is the reality in some places in this world are.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with letting religion dictate your life. Keyword here being inherent. Everybody worships something; it doesn't have to be an imaginary concept. That zeal could lead you to some great things and all the same it could take you down some terrible paths.

what I think is inherently wrong with Jijel's attitude and the attitude of militantly religious Islamite people is that they assume the words of the Quran to be true as they are written - this is a problem, because the Quran does not just talk about religion, ethics, human understanding and the supernatural, but also applies mythology to things in the material world, which contradicts modern-day science. This bullshit should not happen, as much as you want to believe. Just like those creationist Bible teachings, there religion is treading outside its bounds. (Just as Aqo treads out of his bounds when scientifically tackling a fable from the Quran, equaling religion to a lack of education and lack of free will, ...) It isn't conducive to a religion to want to step into that ring and butt heads with scientific theory.
