I put a video in my beatmap and it said it went through but nothing shows up when i play it and show video is checked...

The option in the Editor might have been disabled. Have you check View->Show Video?

If the map in question is this, the video is bad encoded. I recommend you follow blissfulyoshi's guide when encoding videos.
