It's slightly long to read, but it's definitely worth it. And if you like stories, this guy writes lots of great ones.

I was definitely not expecting much out of this, but I honestly got into read after this~

Yet, no one ever succeeds in finding content that actually impresses me ;(
Faust
That was amazing. Thanks for sharing it.
NoHitter
Interesting.
Azure_Kite
Quite a good short story.
Beuchi
That was a really nice reading time :3
Cuddlebun
mediocre
NotShinta
That was rubbish.

I did come up with a theory like that once though. When I was younger.
Torran
Interesting, kupo.
GladiOol
Meh, didn't like it.
Pokebis
My mind isn't blown because this is a common theory shared by many people, or myself from that perspective. If you've honestly never thought like that before then you're not pondering enough.
The story brought up no new ideas in my head thus being a small waste of time and uninteresting. Although I was slightly amused by "I ORIGINALLY POSTED IT ON 4CHAN BUT IM THE REEL AUTHOR, HONEST!"

I think some of you are missing the point.
You are too busy going "OH LOOK I'M COOL I THOUGH OF REINCARNATION BEFORE" too enjoy the actual meaning of this.

Of course, the idea of reincarnation is old, and when I first started reading it, I though it would be just like any other one of them.
But then, the ending, the thing about the egg, the god, his son. I will call bullshit on you if you say that you already had a theory about that before. And if you didn't notice by the title, that's what the twist of the story is really at, not the reincarnation crap.

Also, yes, some retard posted it on 4chan without source, trying to be cool, then someone saw it and posted it on reddit.
But of course, reddit is like the civilized 4chan, so they found the actual source and gave him credit for what he did.

But it's fine if you found this lame, as you can see it's quite evenly split. People just don't get impressed by the same types of stuff.
Cuddlebun
sure it's a little heartwarming or something I guess, but it's not even written well enough to make you actually want to think about it. It's just hey read this clusterfuck of dialogue, isn't this a crazy idea?????? Someone give this man a nobel.

It feels like a story you would find in Big Ideas for Small Thinkers.

I really enjoyed it! It was quite interesting~

If that's true though then I'm a terrible person.
Faust
There is a saying, if you have nothing good to add, then shut up. If it doesn't "blow your mind", so what, I'd rather this thread to so many other Off-Topic crap.
Jarby
This concept is really quite old, you know.

Go ahead and find me another instance of this concept anywhere you'd like.
Mogsy
It's an interesting concept, just like everything for this medium, but as Tode said before, it's not well-written enough to make one truly think about it.
Jarby
Please forgive my if this in-correct. I was reading The Dao of Physics the other day, and i came across the section on Buddhism. We are acctualy the same person? Is it simply an idea to promote the the absense of ego and to free ones mind from the myraid world, or is it supposed to be a deeper representation of absolute truth?
That's along the same lines, anyway. I'm sure you'd find lots of religions with similar theories. It's certainly not a new idea.

Go back to page one and read my huge post.
Just like Pokebis, you missed the point. The twist of the story is about the egg, the god and his baby, not the fact that we are all the same person (which of course comes from buddhism)
NotShinta
Still, that's not much mind-blowing.
Cuddlebun
with a title of The Egg that was not much of a twist
Jarby
The idea of the egg seems to be a minor characteristic when compared to the bigger idea of everyone being the same person. It's more like justifying why we are all the same person.

So you're saying that you saw it coming? Because I'll call bs on that.

It's easy to come up with some cheesy reincarnation idea. As a proof, look at how even 15yo kids like you and Pokebis were able to come up with the idea by yourselves, or how Buddhists though of it hundreds of years ago.

The hard part is coming up with an explanation for why it would be like this, not the idea itself.
Cuddlebun
I didn't say that, did I. I said it wasn't much of a twist. I didn't think "oh my god the universe is gonna be an egg" but I wasn't surprised by the ending at all. A twist implies something that is unexpected, and I was expecting something along the lines of rebirth and eggs.
mm201
It would be more mind-blowing if it turned out you were God Himself.
Ephemeral
I read 'eggs' and assumed ovipositor fanfiction.

I was disappointed.

Lilac
More dialogue than description.

Against all writer's and teacher's opinions...

...Fuck yes. It's got my approval.
Ephemeral
But is it descriptive dialogue?
Lilac
Nope.

Doesn't even tell you where you are.

I love it.

Also, this theory is new to me.
Lybydose
Why are there anchors to remember my place on a 2 page story?

It tells you it's black nothingness. Also, lots of novels are written like this. Most teachers are just stupid people who are doing it for the pay. Or the sadism.
Ephemeral
How can 'nothing' be described?

Bad English right there.

It really isn't as complicated as you say it is. Not that I have any proof that it's been said before, but...
Shellghost
I had read this story quite a while ago, although it was a nice read i didn't find it too mind blowing since it would be incredibly difficult to prove. To me it's more of just a nice ideal for people to have.

ITT: some white guy writes about Instrumentality and thinks it's unique

Ph0X
Actually, he never posted it anywhere or anything, he only writes for himself.

Then, some random guy decides to post it on 4chan without including the source, and then it got on reddit and thousands of people upvoted it.
So I'd actually say that thousands of people though it was original, not the creator.

But again, as this thread shows, it's quite evenly split between the people who can actually appreciate this and people who don't find it interesting.

Also, stop bumping this crap old thread, move on to the next shitthread now please.
Shellghost
Shitting bump old thread.
Cuddlebun
I love the implication that we are uncultured fucks and that there is something to appreciate in that clusterfuck of dialogue.
Ephemeral
I introspect so you don't have to.

I hate that attitude about authors sometimes.

Half of people never experience existential thought because they simply don't give a fuck about shit they can't see with their eyes, and ultimately they live happier and more fulfilling lives as a consequence.

It's pretty funny what people will pin the 'culture' badge on to these days - like it makes a gigantic fucking difference as to the whether the inane shit they produce has any actual worth or not.

Oh wait, this is OT. I can't do this here. Fuck.
