(Google didn't help, so I guess I'll have to explain this on my own :o ) Transparency is when the background of an image is see-through, you can't really see it at all. For example, the image you requested to me is already transparent:
See how its background is the same color as the thread? It basically means that the background of the character matches anything that is behind it. I'm pretty sure that I made things much more complicated, I hope you understand :? You can ask someone that's actually helpful, they'll get the message across.
