Here's a weak whack at my logic muscles, which are mostly fried from six hours of bleh at work.
Disclaimer: Textually, this analysis assumes NoHItter is an Insomniac, and thus the reverse result can be derived if NoHItter is not an Insomniac. Logically, this analysis does not assume so, unless stated. I just didn't want to clog the text with "blah if NoHItter is an Insomniac, and not-blah if he isn't".
First, I'll answer some essential questions you may be having.
Why did the wolves target NoHItter?
Here's my thought on the subject: The most logical thing for the GA to do is to protect NoHItter. It's most of the town's plan, and is the most likely candidate for a GA protection to make sure the plan goes along smoothly. Throw in WIFOM and we get four main possibilities:
Wolves hit NoHItter; GA protects NoHItter
NoHItter is saved, but wolves now know who the GA is. (See GA role PM.)
Advantageous for wolves; disadvantageous for GA.
Wolves hit NoHItter; GA protects someone else
NoHItter is lost, possibly without Insomniac results. Town can guess NoHItter is a town player.
Advantageous for wolves; advantageous for GA/town. I'd say town wins more, though.
Wolves hit someone else; GA protects NoHItter
Assured save of NoHItter, but not much happens. Maybe wolves get a lucky hit. Day 2 plan goes on untouched.
Advantageous for wolves; advantageous for GA/town. I'd say wolves win more, though.
Wolves hit someone else; GA protects someone else
Yeah, whatever. I doubt this would happen as there was no other strong suspect in the game (that I know of). Anyway...
No clue who wins more. Probably the wolves.
SO!
Looking at those options in reverse:
Wolves hit NoHItter
Wolves may discover who the GA is.
Wolves may prove (kinda) NoHItter isn't a wolf.
May not be a free kill.
Likely Insomniac kill (if NoHItter isn't protected)
Wolves hit someone else
Wolves don't prove (kinda) NoHItter isn't a wolf.
Probably a free kill.
No Insomniac kill (or at least a very very small chance).
GA protects NoHItter
May reveal identity to wolves.
No chance for wolves to prove (kinda) NoHItter isn't a wolf.
Day 2 plan commences.
GA protects someone else
Little chance of revealing identity to wolves.
Day 2 plan may not be able to work.
Chance for wolves to prove (kinda) NoHItter isn't a wolf.
Now ... GA prefers keeping their identity a secret to letting the day 2 plan continue. Wolves want to discover the GA, and they also would really benefit from a likely Insomniac kill.
So, to me, the choices are clear: GA shouldn't protect, or should protect someone else, and the wolves should kill NoHItter.
Hopefully I explained this well enough.
I'll continue this post later.
