Snapping / Aim Practice

Generally speaking, I'll throw a song in the "completed" pile when I have an S and a FC on it, my thinking is that I'll come back to it when I'm good enough to get an S+FC with mods on as well.

That being beside the point, I'm dreadfully bad at actually getting FCs. I can read AR9 with little problems, and my accuracy is generally what I'd consider pretty good, but I'm becoming aware that my aim, or my ability to keep a combo going is lacking. When I read about snapping, it seems that the purpose of snapping is to increase or improve aim, so I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to improve or start snapping? I'm not entirely familiar with the concept of it besides some research, so I might be misinterpreting it here, but from what I gather it's a valuable skill for clearing high star beatmaps, so it's probably a habit I should attempt to become familiar with as soon as possible.

If anyone has any other tips for improving aim and FC'ing maps, that would also be helpful. I understand playing more, and am actively doing so, but it's always good to ask, sometimes people have helpful pointers that speed up the process.

Well some people might argue that 'snapping' is an important skill, but really you should just focus on hitting the circle, not how you get to it. There is no advanced strategy, all you need to do is challenge your aim by focusing hard playing difficult jumpy maps, and your aim and ability to FC faster maps will get better.

Old maps with funny spacing tend to help your snapping. A good example is Ayumi Hamasaki - Labyrinth and IOSYS - Marisa wa Taihen na Mono wo Nusunde Ikimashita. DJPop made a lot of similar maps, you could try searching him.

From someone like me who only consentrates on aim,I think playing unranked maps can help get better at aim.
Also DTing songs with alot of jumps can help too
I think snapping is important during square or triangle jumps
and it looks cool and its fun to do. i recommend it

this is probably my favorite map to practice my jump
also theres square jump practice maps which should help you
https://osu.ppy.sh/b/292574
and i tap on my tablet during jumps and it helps me alot. thats probably just me though
and to FC, you can go to edit to practice the parts you often miss
and iguess play more. like me...

i is izaw: Thanks for the reply, I tried out the beatmaps and they're both a bit above my head, but the Squares Practice Map is helpful. I can't even get past 20 seconds of it, though, I've always been god awful with squares and I don't know how to improve, nothing I've ever read about "splitting up the pattern" or anything like that seems to help much. I suppose that's also part of the reason I'm trying to learn snapping.

One thing I've realized over the past day though is that, the idea of "snapping" is basically getting to a note before you have to hit it, but with faster beatmaps, which I play all the time, there's such a short delay that I really have no clue if I'm actually doing it or not.

Cheezstik: I do play quite a few of those and I have Labrynth a few tries since I had it downloaded. It's above my head, really, but I blame that more on the aim of the beatmap, since most of the times I fail the song it's because the circle size is so small that I drift off the circle. Again, a map that I think snapping would help on, but have no clue how to learn to do it.

When you play, just actively try to snap onto each note, even ones with small spacing. You'll find that it eventually becomes very natural to do once maps start to have bigger jumps in quick succession.

As for improving aim, I guess you should probably try to challenge yourself and play maps that are hard but not hard enough to get less than 95% in (or something along those lines).

Play more.

Play more jump maps.

Play more. I have problems with snapping, but I'm getting a lot better by playing ar10 (HR) maps like Kyoumei no True Force. But this maps aren't meant for your level, so only play more and more.

PD: jump compilation maps are good.

forcing yourself to snap is detrimental

whether you snap or you flow, it depends on your grip. Snapping is also insanely hard on patterns that are on a linear line, as they require you to completely stop your hand and move again repeatedly, whereas patterns like stars allow you to shift your momentum

which is why stars are the easy patterns in the game

Not really said yet but smaller circle size also helps improve aim since you're more likely to miss if you're not aiming for centre of circles
sayonara_sekai
edit your favorite jumpy maps to cs4-5 and go crazy

yep, linear lines are second only to squares in difficulty. I don't even know if you could call stars patterns, they're indistinguishable from normal jumps.

what just an inspired observation. you deserve a medal.

Can you give me an example of a linear line?

Well you know, I could've been an annoying cunt and said that a linear line is redundant but okay.

well played. 10/10 dick move :3

how else can you explain a linear line?
linear line patterns are literal linear lines. i am not too sure how it could be any simpler other than drawing the circles on the line

Yes, draw the circles because I don't know if you're refering to airman/wahrheit type jumps or Nigdy malo or this shit since you're not descriptive at all.

they are back and forth jumps, also considered zigzags, there is a difference

I thought that was a spaced stream. Now I'm confused.

Snapping helps for aim

HD helps with consistency

When doing shapes look at every note individually, do not see it as a whole shape or bad things will happen.

this is what I do and bad things still happen
