I recently decided to use a different picture for the background for a beatmap I already submitted through BSS. Is there a any way to change the thumbnail to the new background image?

Yes, just upload the beatmap as a usual update. It should change to the new background as the thumbnail.
If you're not using the old background anymore, remember to go to File > Open Song Folder and delete the unused BG.

Well, sometimes it stays the old one. As far as I know, there is no way to change it manually. It may change by itself later though :/

I did that and the thumbnail changed on the site, but in client it still looks like the old thumbnail xP

Hopefully it changes soon, in that case. It's bugging me to have the thumbnail and the BG not match xP

If it's really bugging you to the point of insanity, I guess you could force a change by deleting the local copy of the thumbnail.

They're stored somewhere in the osu! installation directory, under <something>\osu!\Data\bt . Do note that Data is a hidden folder, so you may have to mess with some options to be able to see it. In there, you'll find a bunch of thumbnail images, which the osu! client uses instead of downloading the fresh copy. Look for something like:
276935l (from http://osu.ppy.sh/s/276935)
277451l (from http://osu.ppy.sh/s/277451)
276959l (from http://osu.ppy.sh/s/276959)

You get the point. It's basically <beatmap set ID + lowercase L>. If you delete it then you will force osu! to download a fresh copy of the thumbnail, which will be correct.

Thanks so much!!

I'm having some trouble trying to change my beatmap's thumbnail before submitting it. Anything to fix this?

Please start a new thread rather than reopenning a old one.

Additionnaly, there is nothing more to say on the subject, follow the steps provided by Your Good Self (why did you named yourself that way...). Change the thumbnail and submit it, it's now changed server side and will be changed for all who download the map. To change it locally you have to delete the cached image in osu!\Data\bt
