Do you know of Ace Combat? (Ace Comabt thread)

Amidst the blue skies, a link from past to future. The sheltering wings of the protector...


Ace Combat is a series of arcade style combat flight simulator games.
The series was known for it's in-depth and dramatic storyline, and also it's action-packed gameplay style that's comparable to flight sims, but not quite as realistic due to arcade style controls.

What do you like about the series and which games did you enjoy from the franchise?

Which planes do you enjoy piloting the most?

Personally, I enjoyed both the story of each game and the soundtracks that complements it.
I've only played 5, X, X2, Assault Horizon, and Infinity though :( , but so far I have enjoyed playing Ace Combat 5

Ace Combat pre-Assault Horizon was simply amazing.

I've played:

  • Ace Combat Advance
  • Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere
  • Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies
  • Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
  • Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War
  • Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
  • Ace Combat 6: Liberation of Gracemeria
  • Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (though I wish I hadn't)
Before Assault Horizon, Namco and Project Aces actually cared about the story starting from Ace Combat 04, and that's what set it apart from other games.
It's hard to make a story out of air warfare, but harder to make a good story.

Of course, when Assault Horizon arrived, they threw all that out of the window and just pandered the series to three-year olds who played Call of Duty.

Ace Combat Infinity is OK, but the story is pretty dreadful in my opinion.

Ace Combat should've just stayed in Strangereal.

i've only played AC 3 and AC 5

remember being stuck at one of those recon mission in AC5, Solitaire ? i just keep circling around trying to find the target :roll:

Just take a quick picture of the C-5s along with the mine entrance in the background.

And prepare to haul ass after one more picture.

A question for fellow pilots (who are still willing to post in this thread :p) in the world of Ace Combat: What are your favourite aircraft in the series, be it original or real-world aircraft?

Personally. I prefer the following:
XFA-27
X-02 Wyvern
CFA-44 Nosferatu (Though I haven't had the chance to experience it :( )
Eurofighter Typhoon
F-22 Raptor
XR-45 Cariburn
YR-99 Forneus

I enjoy using all the available aircraft, but these are my favourites. :3

F-15S/MTD (F-15 ACTIVE)
F/A-22A Raptor
F-15C Eagle/F-15E Strike Eagle
F-14A Tomcat
A-10A Thunderbolt II
F-2/F-16C Fighting Falcon
Rafale B/M

My favorite original aircraft in order:
ADFX-01 Morgan
ADF-01A/F FALKEN
X-02 Wyvern
Fenrir
CFA-44 Nosferatu

It's finally happening! o:



I had my doubts that there would even be a sequel, after hearing about Project Aces having problems.
Let's just hope it's pre-Assault Horizon quality.
