Run into beatmaps where the beats seem off or just out of place sometimes (ranked ones that is) and I assume that's part of the difficulty.
Any tips and tricks for beating these songs that you've found?

There is only one major thing you need to know, and that is in time you will get better in reading maps and it will come to you naturally. There is no magical way, it all comes down to how good you are with rythm and reading maps.

EDIT: Well if anything i guess you could check the editor and learn the song.

Turn sound off or down SIGNIFICANTLY~
if the beats sound off-time or just retarded you might find iteasier simply Reading patterns/timings rather than following music rhythm

Listen to it on Auto.

Sightread mastery, pretty much.

Or go and play some more Lockstep if you would

Play more Rhythm Heaven. Yes, Lockstep is a good one. In that you have to get to the point where you instinctively know he's going to go "haihai!" instead of "hai...hai..."

Just play more and slap the mapper later. :)

I object to "Canned Heat Syndrome", every note in that song made perfect sense. :|

Yeah. It goes to the music perfectly, vocals aren't the only part of music. :(

Play other songs until you're more experienced with off-beats and then go back to older ones. :P

That was one of the best songs and maps in EBA.

I never had any problem with Canned Heat. Rock this Town was far worse.

Canned Heat was a very fun map and had the best hitsounds in EBA next to Inspiration.

When I was first playing through EBA, it, along with September and The Anthem, was one of the harder songs, but it was fun enough and the storyboard was engaging enough that I didn't get so upset.

Also, this type of offbeat-heavy map becomes quite easy if you read the spacing. (Just ignore the spacing at the very end with those wavy sliders. :P)

Canned Heat was hard, but it wasn't off-beat at all. I think I only had trouble with Without a Fight timing-wise at first.

Anyway, unless your own universal offset is wrong, none of these types of maps should be ranked. If they do happen to be ranked, keep trying, just like everything else on osu!

Yesss, yessss, I can't S that stupid song (Okay, it's not really stupid but still :U) on lower difficulties. Argh, too many 100s.

Oh, on the topic... Just make sure your sightreading ability is awesome. Practice tricky parts with the editor or watching Auto. It's not really difficult, for me at least <3

Rock this town is meant to be 1/3. They didn't do that though. They used 1/2.

Yeah I figured that out after playing it again.

Ah, that makes sense. I must have been hitting the beats 1/6 of a beat out half the time :/
