How fast do I have to stream?

You have to tap as fast as you have to tap, accurately enough for the taps to be within the hit window set by the od.

Start low, go up. A bit above what you can singletap would be my advice (for example, if you can singletap 180 bpm 1/2 try alternating 100 bpm 1/4 streams) or whatever you can already stream well (missing any notes in a stream means you can't do the stream, be it too long too fast, execptions being you unable to read the map or follow notes with cursor)

Well it's basically all about practice (yes i know everyone says the same thing but it's true).
After some time you will eventually be able to stream just by the feeling on first try.

This. Think of streams like extended triples, its how I got the hang of them.
Also make sure that you don't mash through streams, that is BAD.

This generally works. But for any complex or badly mapped beatmaps it completely fails.

Generally streams will be constant 8th or 16th notes. In some cases they might be tuplets. If the beatmap does something different then it is either a very weird song or the mapper doesn't know what they are doing. Generally

If you can find the down beats in a song those are generally the quarter notes. Just either double or quadruple that speed.

Like everything else in Osu! or any rhythm game prior experience playing an instrument as well as with music theory generally helps.

Note there is no advice that works with all beatmaps you'll run into and the open nature of music makes even basic rules more like a guide line. Thus why I emphasize the term generally.

let me try...

Sry if this post is in a wrong place or whatever I'm a beginner at posting etc. So anyway I've played osu for ~14 months now and recently got into 7-8 star maps (yes i know what a retard so bad player) and I CANT FUCKING UNDERSTAND HOW DO I DO 1/4 JUMPS i cant follow the notes so i just focus on the center and read the pattern with my peripheral but all i do is end up one beat behind or ahead or completely missing/tapping off beat. any tips? :( :( :(

pls dont say play more or w/e im clearly qualified to be playing these maps and only want legitimate advice

hello :)

you might have heard of people BOOSTING their skill. this technique is called the BOOSTER technique and your problem sounds like something you could easily BOOST away. read here more about how you can BOOST your skill with the BOOSTER technique: https://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/256683/start=0 8-)

I felt streams ain't that hard, not on the maps I play at the moment at least. Once you feel the maps speed it's really not that hard to figure out how fast you need to alternate your tapping. You probably just need to have a better feel for rhythm.

If you want to accurately pass a certain beatmap you have to stream as fast as the beatmap's bpm times 4.

In case a beatmap/song runs at 200bpm 16th notes will be at 800bpm. This is how fast you are usually going to stream in 200bpm maps. 32ths are not used frequently in Osu!. But you can of course do the math yourself whenever you encounter them somewhere.
