these maps are super entertaining, and they're already done to some extent in standard, with invisible hitcircles, but this is currently impossible in mania, as you can't put stuff in front of the entire playfield.

what do you think?

(i might add a better example later, as i can't find it now)

I want to manipulate the whole gameplay (not full storyboarded like the fake it song)
It's possible to rank this but there will be some guidelines and rules implementing them
for ex. It should be readable for players and knows the right time to press.

It's possible to use mods (hidden, flashlight,) then make them set the time when to activated then disactivated.

Then you can also request adding lua functions for gameplay, to script special mods, base diff changes (AR,OD,HP,CS), Custom hit elements (Like a hold circle, simply adding a lua function to manipulate a hitobject, that it have to be held from X to Y (in beat nr. or time)), or even switching gamemodes completely, giving the option to make "Jack of all trades" maps.

TL;DR
Lua modding interface for osu! Beatmaps.

I like the idea but this being implemented is about as probable as vinglish getting it's own language-specific channel.

I'm pretty surprised that this was seemingly bumped from the depths of hell! I still think this is a cool idea and could make for some really fun multiplayer experiences. You could have something like a quiz game, where you have 3 answer choices, and all three show a dummy circle, but only one actually has a hit circle underneath it. You could make a counter strike map where you have to click on people's heads to the music. There's a lot of freedom you get when you are allowed to make your own hit elements. One potential issue I could see is that the file sizes could get pretty large in some of these scenarios. Another approach to this could be to allow for a glsl shader which has available as inputs the current screen, an array of hit objects, the user's mouse position (and possibly an array of previous ones) their hp, the currently pressed buttons, the current time, and maybe even the audio waveform. Then you could apply interesting distortion effects without having to essentially make a video of what you want and play it over the other content. I might try to implement something like this on my own branch of lazer.

i love your idea tho, but requesting these kind of features is like requesting to change the SV limit from 0.10x to 0.00x and negative SVs, this will completely change the .osu file if that SV limit change happens.This is the same for the .osb file if it's allowed to treat gameplay elements as objects.

I hope this will be implemented on the cutting edge or lazer. This will be so much fun editing the gameplay elements.
