Problem Details: ^ Osu literally crashes when I try to play any song which is longer than 4min. All modes share the same problem no charts that are longer than 4min are exception. Interestingly when I switch to my win7 laptop osu doesn't crash anymore but when I go back to win8 desktop osu just keep crashing. I include some details below

Video or screenshot showing the problem:
System.OutOfMemoryException: 引发类型为“System.OutOfMemoryException”的异常。
在 System.String.Split(Char[] separator, Int32 count, StringSplitOptions options)
在 #T.#db.#ks(String )
在 #T.#db.#js(String )
在 #T.#db.#is(String , Boolean , VoidDelegate , String )
在 #T.#db.#g.#Le.#vG(String , Exception )
在 osu_common.Libraries.NetLib.FileNetRequest.#bw(Exception )
在 #Wb.#9c.#g.#Le.#xG(Object )
在 System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(Object state)
在 System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state)
在 System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart(Object obj)

osu! version: 20141030.6cuttingedge. Notice that latest stable version doesn't work either ;w;

even watching replay can cause this......

btw my win7 crashes

System.OutOfMemoryException: 引发类型为“System.OutOfMemoryException”的异常。
maybe this string explains it..
win8 uses a lot of memory (around like 1 GB, that's why Windows recommended to install 4 GB on win8) so osu easily ran out of memory.
as further you play, the RAM used by osu is increased.

(if i told a wrong explanation, i apologize since i never got this crash before)

How much RAM do you have installed in your PC?

What is your skin? Does the problem still happen if you pause in the middle of the song periodically?

My desktop has a RAM of 12G (I actually use it to play sc2 so little RAM would be deadly lol)
Laptop 8G

My skin is a modified version of Gon's & whiteworf's skin and it works perfectly well in old version osu. Pause helps only a little bit and most of the time pause helps nothing.

btw no only game playing, test playing and watching auto would also result in crash

Yeah my win7 starts to crash too T.T

actually i dont think it will go out of memory cuz my computer has 16G of RAM i dont think osu needs that much

I happened to notice you're both from China and both have the same issue. And you're also both having the issue on windows 7.

Basically what this guy said is correct.
Seems like an odd bug with Windows 7 (in Chinese?) that falsely reports osu! causing you to run out of memory and then forcefully shutting it down.

Could you watch a replay in windowed mode while looking at the amount of memory the osu!.exe process takes up in the task manager
and note down how much it takes up right before/when crashing?

I doubt we (users) can do much of anything about it though. Would like to hear what peppy thinks about this issue
and wonder if he could circumvent it somehow.

The "System.OutOfMemoryException" error happens whenever osu! tries to use more than 2GB of virtual memory (which usually happens when it reaches about 1.4GB of Private Memory) (no matter how much RAM you have in your PC), since it is a 32-bit application with LARGEADDRESSAWARE disabled.

Try to limit your fps?
[ Jelly ]
i always play with 60 fps and it crashes

yes but it can not explain why it also crashes on richard's english win8. I will try to see how much memory does it take right before crashing.

Hmm actually I am currently in US(I am using a desktop brought in US) and Jelly is currently in Canada lol. And win8 also crashes.

About 570m+ ~ 640+ that's quite a lot imo.
Yeah I am not a specialist in Computer Science and I am quite sure that this can only be handled by dev T.T but what I am interested in is if my case and Jelly's are just corner cases...seems that many people don't have this problem at all

kemo also has this problem. maybe we can try to find out what software we have in common. 说不定某中文软件与osu不兼容导致crash. 以前qq和360不兼容我电脑就crash过

basically. when my osu has reach over 1 GB RAM. it gives me lag and when i went to the main screen (Osu! with Background only) the RAM usage is decreased until normal (around 200 MB)

I've attempted to fix this on the latest Cutting Edge, can you try again and let me know please?

works for me. At least for my PC, osu now maintains a RAM occupation of 173m instead of keeps increasing while I am playing :3/

ive been getting this problem on my 2019 laptop win10, it has 16GB of memory and uses abt 3GB from osu... idk how to fix it :( [nvm it worked somehow]
