Some of what I write will be out of order of when it happened, that's because I'm bad with timelines and it doesn't really matter when what happened when as long as you know that it happened.

In case you don't know anything about Zoe Quinn, she is a game developer who made a Virtual Novel called "Depression Quest". This game got very good reviews from people in the game journalism industry, with reviews coming from Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Kotaku, etc. About a week ago, a wordpress showed up called The Zoe Post (NSFW language). This post was written by an ex who then explained his relationship with Zoe. It claimed that she slept with these five guys (two names were censored by the writer of the post), a few of them happening to be in the game journalism industry, who also wrote articles about her game. After thezoepost came out, a youtuber by the name of "MundaneMatt" made a video about it (which you can watch here). That is a reupload of his video as the first time he put it up it got taken down by Zoe, who was claiming copyright infringement as it used a picture from her game, however that picture was already public as it was used to show what the game was. MundaneMatt reuploaded his video without the use of that picture to avoid getting another copyright claim.

After this happened, another youtuber by the name of "InternetAristocrat" put up a video called "Quinnspiracy Theory: The Five Guys Saga, which explains everything I just said and more but in higher detail. He has now also put up another video called "Quinnspiracy Theory: In-N-Out Edition". These videos explain mostly everything that has happened so far, but I'll write out the more important parts as those videos are both 20 minutes each.

To TL;DR InternetAristocrat's videos, basically, Zoe Quinn slept with five guys, while in a relationship. Her personal life does not matter, but as it turns out, these five guys happened to be in journalism, working at places like Kotaku and Rock Paper Shotgun. These same people also wrote reviews on her game, and sent people to the stream greenlight page so the game could get greenlighted, but that's not as important right now as that is all mostly speculation and conspiracy.

Nathan Grayson (one of those five guys) wrote an article about a TV Show that was to be about Indie Games, which you can read here. The very day that article came out, Zoe Quinn made her own GameJam website, which had a donation button linked to her own private paypal, the same paypal that got tips that she asked for on her tumblr, the website never made another update.

During this same time, Zoe was claiming she got raided by Wizardchan, which never happened. (Imgur about wizardchan and why they never raided Zoe Quinn here. This is important because she claims these people did it because she's a woman and that they are misogynistic virgins. Zoe was also participating in a game competition made by The Fine Young Capitalists, this is one of the creators of the competition's response to what she did to them here. The Fine Young Capitalists' website has now been hacked to make it look like they shut down.

Talking about Zoe Quinn is now a bannable offense on Reddit, with threads and comments being deleted and many people being shadowbanned by actual admins of Reddit. 4chan threads talking about Zoe Quinn and what she is doing disappear from the boards, and they aren't being pruned or hitting and image limit. But it isn't all moderators of 4chan and reddit doing this, it is only a few. One single admin of reddit is shadowbanning people and deleting comments, one single moderator of 4chan is deleting these threads.

Any talk of Zoe Quinn is being deleted immediately from the internet, from every social website outlet where you can talk with people and remain anonymous (Reddit, Tumblr, NeoGaf, 4chan, Funnyjunk). I understand once again that a lot of this is conspiracy and speculation, and I might be forgetting to cover an area of what has happened so far but this just about covers it. Why would they be censoring it if it wasn't true?

Once again, I don't want to start anything, I don't care about Zoe Quinn's personal life, I just want to be able to discuss this as it is turning into a rather big thing.

Thanks for explaining it simply to me. I think I'll just pass her off as a misandry feminist for now and search into it more when I get home.

I should also make clear that I will not be able to explain what has happened/is happening as well as InternetAristocrat's videos can, so if you have time please watch those videos which makes everything much more clear than what I can explain.

A lot is going down, and there are a million variations of the same story going around which makes it difficult to ascertain what happened in it's entirety. It's obvious that shenanigans have occurred, but having the "two sides" arguing incessantly against one another solves absolutely nothing.

I'd also like to mention that when that twitlonger post was posted to reddit every single comment in the comment section was deleted within an hour of the link being posted.

The thing is that it matters now more than it did previously because of the obvious censorship that is going on. Your statement about 4chan being 4chan is exactly my point, they have threads daily for dead girls and torturing animals that never get deleted... Why is the only thing ever to be censored on 4chan something that is being censored everywhere?

Just because it's "gaming" journalism shouldn't discredit the fact that it is corrupt and apparently all you have to do is offer free sex and you get a good review on major gaming sites.

I'd also like to say that TB wrote that after getting bombarded with PMs from people who knew as much as he did before he actually did research on it, and he also wrote it a week ago, and tons of stuff came out after he wrote it. there's been a conflict of interest for an indie game developer to get publicity and coverage. Couldn't give a shit about anything else really, it's just that I know many people trying to make it by developing their own game and how they're relying on press coverage. Remind me how this game started again? Oh yeah right, one person making it all from scratch. This couldn't be more relevant. In a blooming media like video games you absolutely cannot have corrupt press and journalism. I see every day amazing projects on /agdg/ being worked on and I'm just pissed off that they might never be successful because they can't get coverage for one reason or another.

Not only that, it gives an awful reputation to gaming journalism in general.

I don't know in other countries, but in France people go absolutely nuts if there is anything regarding corruption in press and media. Especially written press. That's especially what makes it so powerful and how scary it is for politicians.

I never really gave much of a fuck about gaming journalism and stuff tbh, like I've known Kotaku was full of shit since they said Shingeki no Kyojin was quality, and before that I pretty much only saw them in Google search results. Similarly, until I read this post and watched the vids and whatnot I had no damn clue who Zoe Quinn was. (My interest was piqued by the actually-sensible-seeming-topic-in-offtopic.)

What interests me in this tw:this might get a little tumblr-eqsque isn't so much the corruption in gaming journalism, or some chick treating her boyfriend like crap and cheating and manipulating and lying (that one's on her), or even the repeated censorship of the topic. I'm not really sure how to word this, but I feel like she's probably done quite a lot of damage to future female indie devs.
The stereotype/accusations thrown at successful women of "fucking their way to the top" and "oh, she only got a raise because she's shagging the boss" aren't anything new. It's like an invisible glass ceiling where if you've got tits and you get any higher than a set point, it's not because you were good at what you did- you were just screwing someone with power. And it's some major bullshit, I mean it's hurtful as hell when people say that kind of thing about you.

Back to Zoe Quinn, I mean if these accusations are true (and I've gotta say there is one hell of a lot of damning evidence), she's fucking reinforced that stereotype. I mean it's been pretty well documented in the various links OP provided here that if she's a feminist, she's a godawful one and a hypocrite to boot, but... I dunno I just have this awful feeling that this whole mess of a situation is just reinforcing that standard, and that the easiest way to attack women in games (if shit like this keeps happening) is going to be that same old crap about opening their legs for their career and that this is going to become the "evidence".

YES, EXACTLY. I'm very glad to see that this post did not get hated on by the staff as I had expected it to, and I'm glad other people realize that it's who those five guys were that matter, not the fact that they were five guys who all slept with this chick.
