Also, shouldn't the new star difficulty system make it much easier to find suitable maps to play?
actually that's very wrong, for beginners the best way to improve is using nofail on maps above their level, it increases their perception of the game and helps learn to deal with many types of patterns quickly. Once you want to learn to be accurate and consistent on a level you can already perceive starting to play things on your level would be a good idea, but learning to be consistent on [Normal]s is kind of a waste of time, jumping into harder maps with nofail would yield much faster results.Philantropist wrote:

Wow people can be pricks, way to loose just about any respect players had for you...Genki1000 wrote:

Yeah, well, not only was his response extremely hilarious but he's 100% correct. Pretty much all you have to do to hit, I dunno, 1000pp is keep showing up. Seriously, any fuck freak doing every single thing wrong can hit 1000pp if you just keep coming back, and you'll figure out all the things you're doing wrong as your skills develop. Just play more. There are no shortcuts.Flubar009 wrote:

Also why would you bump a three year old thread just to complain about some random shit.

When you ask stupid and generic questions, you get stupid and generic answers.Edgar_Figaro wrote:
TBH I do tend to agree that while yes I get that people are tired of the millionth thread of "how can I get better" I still think it's important for us to be encouraging to players who want to improve. Everyone starts at the bottom and I am certain that almost all of you have at some point asked yourself "what am I doing wrong and why am I not improving"
If it annoys you that people ask repetitive questions the easy solution is just to not click on or respond to a thread. There is 0 reason to be a dick to new players that have done nothing to warrant it. All it's going to do is make new people think Osu has a terrible community which I personally don't think is a good thing for this game.

You'd think that but even when I made a tread a while back on "Jumping to Streams" Where I in-depth explained what was causing the problem and asking for specific items of improvement. (I had actually couple paragraphs explaining my problem and asking for the type of advice I was wanting) I still was given people telling me "Play More" & insulting me saying I had a crappy attitude if I simply thought I would get better magically when I told them I was looking for more specific advice. (which btw I never once thought) I understood perfectly well that any advice I was given I would have to play with that approach and mindset (aka play more) but I was looking for the right way to practice and not just being told to practice more.Philosofikal wrote:

How can you ask something so vague as "how do I get better" and possibly expect anything other than "play more"?
If you want advice on how to improve, you must first understand what you are doing wrong, not just that you are doing something wrong. The more specific the question on what to improve, the better your answer will be.
"How do I play streams" is a much worse question than "What's the best way to position my hand for streaming consistency, and should I lead with my dominant or non-dominant finger?" And you know how you get to that level of understanding of what you're doing wrong? Playing more. If you don't understand what you are doing wrong, it's because you haven't played enough. Ask us for advice on better techniques to improve what you already know you're fucking up and we can help you a LOT better.

This is so fucking true. Always the same people who give you those generic crap answers, though. If you check their profile (playcount+rank) you can clearly see that "play more" didn't help them :^)Edgar_Figaro wrote:

If you don't know the problem, there's no way you can find an answer for it?
Don't ask for answers without knowing the problem you have. Here's a transcript of the interview questions. It's a good read.
