if its talked about a shitload, then people will want to see what they're talking about. You see kancolle avatars everywhere and theres an osu thread for the game. Someone is bound to look it up and quite possibly get into the game or watch the anime as a result.

But even in SAO the characters have things like aspirations and humanising features presented to us. In Kancolle I couldn't tell you what any of the characters want to do in the future or what they think about the war. Their defining features are purely aesthetic with a shallow guise of personality; even then it is typical loli, big boobed character or some other cliche.

I loved her route too, she was the one I really wanted in term of personal preferences, since I'm a fan of purple haired Kuudere, though, in the beta, she kind of blew a hole in my life. You could only access her good ending through Lili, and in order to access it, you had to go through all of her bad ends in her own route(kind of a trap route). Including one where she kills herself, was freaking harsh, in the final version, I think someone else took over her route as the guy who was making her left, and it was a bit incomplete, so felt a bit rushed.
