Queue is open for round 5. We're ready for requests!
This round's conditions:
- Elvis will not be modding anything this round.
- Yuzu will not mod this round so we will not be accepting TV Size maps unless they are of very very high quality.
- I will mod 5 maps.
- Okoratu will mod 2 maps.
- Tess will mod 3 maps this round.
- That makes a total of 10 maps to be modded.
- Make sure your maps are of high quality or else they will be denied.
- Why am I posting so much read the damn rules ON THE FIRST POST OF THE THREAD.
Thanks for posting this actually I finally get an opportunity to answer why we map quality (as per our standards) maps. The reason is quite simple though. I at least cannot mod first maps or lower quality maps because I simply do not know how to put opinions into words in a forum without exceeding the current character limit (60000 characters). There are just so many things newer mappers need to learn to reach a certain point where they will produce quality maps that it is really hard to help over the forums. This pretty much ends up as an invitation to anyone who wants tips or isn't confident in their mapping and halfway knows they are going to be rejected, or get rejected anyway, to throw me a direct message in the game and I will try to the best of my ability to help anyone who is willing to learn understand how mapping works!Unsfamiliar wrote:
Hi Kaguya and co!
It is to my understanding that the entire modding process exists to help mappers, experienced and not so experienced alike, improve their short-term and long-term mapping goals. They learn from their mistakes and synthesise from the direction of the community. Therefore, in my respectful opinion, maps ought not be rejected based solely on 'quality reasons'. Of course what constitutes a 'well-made' map in the context of this specific modding queue, is somewhat ill-defined and surrounded by the murky area of the objectivity versus subjectivity debate. Newer mappers may have very limited knowledge about mapping in general and you would be hard-pressed to impose the 'well-made' criterion on them (even the most well-known mappers would arguably fall short, but I won't go there); a fortiori, they should also have the opportunity to obtain mods from more experienced mappers/modders like yourselves.
This is not to say that newer mappers should be given priority; no, all maps have room for improvement notwithstanding of the number of ranked maps a person has.
The particular friend I'm referring for the purposes of this queue is not an exception. I merely believe that should be given that opportunity. It may be that the maps do not attain your personal standards, and maps of 'lower quality' will necessarily take more time to mod. There is no doubt that humans are subject to time constraints (and I'm sure you guys are no exception to this), but even general mapping advice would undoubtedly be appreciated in order to set their mapping career on course. This map is not their first map, but this is their first map they intend to (and now know that they have to means to) rank. They have improved a considerable amount in mapping, as they are greatly driven by self-improvement, and have taken it upon themselves to learn how to storyboard by coding with SGL. This is no small feat, and the effort put into this mapset (with the help of guests) is undeniably noteworthy.
At the end of the day, osu is a game (a really fun, free-to-play, time-killing and soul-sucking on at that!) and community-based aspects like modding are here to improve that very same community. The intermediate processes which lead up to ranking a map should be the focus of our reasoning and effort; having that map ranked is the fruit of our effort, for the community to enjoy.
Thanks for reading!
