So how exactly does PP work in these cases

I'm trying out new ranked songs(recently approved for ranks) and I'm trying to score high on them since they're new.
Does PP have to do with the difficulty? If I rank in the first 500 for an easy mode, I don't get any PP :(

Does it have to do with how popular the beatmap is? If I rank in the top 500 and there are only 500 or less people who have ranked in the beatmap, then it doesn't really count?


LF ways to improve my rank after half a year/one year of inactivity :(

Or do I go back to old beatmaps and try to top 500 those :(

There is a detailed approach on how ppv2 works in the wiki I believe. It depends on what difficulty songs you have completed and how good were you at them, you need to complete harder and harder maps as you go, you can kind of tell how difficult it is from the star rating at some times.

The new system has nothing to do with the rankings/popularity of a map when it comes to pp. It's entirely dependant on the difficulty of the song and how good your score is for the song.

Ah ok... forever suck rank then.. cause I'm not mentally prepared for insane songs LOL

then practice! pp is all about your skill level now and the way you get more is by improving. I honestly think the new pp system is a good motivator to keep playing and try to get better.

So do you guys try to S/SS a song on say, hard mode then try to add in mods like hardrock etc.?
Most of the time when adding hard rock, it turns into insane T_T

You can gain pp up to 900 (or more?) by only playing hard no mods.
You should try some easy insanes and hard hards (XD).

https://osu.ppy.sh/b/95247?m=0 this insane is a lot easier than other insanes 60pp+

and you have better acc than me, so you can do it <3
