Problem Details:
Since a few days ago the spinners didn't show their metres, but I continued to play anyway.
Today even the spinner approach circle is gone. It doesn't matter if I play with a skin or not and changing "Prefer new default skin behaviour" doesn't change anything either.

I even tried the test client but had the same problem there.

The skin I use is Minimalistic Miku

millhi what did you do
MillhioreF
The spinner isn't supposed to have an approach circle on the default skin, or on custom skins that use the new spinner style (e.g. have spinner-top and spinner-bottom elements). If your skin doesn't use these, can you provide a link to it?

Just why did you break my skin. For what reason.

I use this skin t/202277 and I had approach circles in the spinners yesterday.

Fortunately I uploaded a video to show the game to a friend yesterday.

This is how it looked like yesterday

Pretty disappointed that the latest update borked aesthetic..

All I ever wanted was some approach circles :(

+1 on this. The skin i use has its approach circle gone too.

On top of that, all my other skins that use the default skin behaviour function are basically turned off, even when the option is enabled.

The skin I use, Bright lights (amazing skin), says to turn on "default skin behaviour" when its off to have the approach circle. However, it doesnt even say to turn it on (because it is already) and the approach circle doesn't appear. :P

Posting just to say that I'm having this problem as well.

My skin is a combination of a bunch of other parts, so I don't know if I'm allowed to upload it; however, my spinner comes from Azer's Black 2014 x Aesthetic. http://puu.sh/8q1UM.osk

Apparently spinners that contain certain spinner skin files remove the approach circle. I'm not a skinner, so I'm not sure if everything in this skin is necessary for an old styled spinner. It certainly contains files that the game checks for that prevent the approach circle from appearing.
Nyquill
I don't quite understand whats going on. Is the approach circle not showing even for old style spinners?
esibun
They're not showing up for skins that use new skin behavior (this option: https://osu.ppy.sh/ss/1630937). Skins that use old behavior are not affected. I'm not sure, however, what OP is referring to with the spinning metre.

Whether intentional or not, this change strongly impacts visibility of nomod spinners on skins that rely on the approach circle being visible, such as Aesthetic HD.

Also going to post another before/after because why not:

This is intended behavior, approach circles were never meant to be shown in new style spinners.

If you feel this needs ot be otherwise, make a feature request. Otherwise, use old style spinners.

Why remove a feature at all, why not just leave it up to the skinners to decide if the skin should have an approach circle or not?

Well, guess I will have to try and modify the skin I use to be able to see the approach circle again, time to study the wiki.
MillhioreF
It was removed because it was a bug that they showed up at all. There are a lot more people affected negatively by the change than I thought though, so I'll try to get something worked out.

Hmm, okay then.

Well I successfully edited the skin I use to support the approach circles and I even got the spinning-metre to show up, yay me.

Hopefully you will find a solution that works, else skinners that do minimalistic skins will just have to change to the old way.
TheVileOne
A toggle is in the works to support hybrid skins.
Garin
what if i use a new style ranking panel? does that mean i have to have my scoreboard all fucked up cause i have to use old style for my spinner? seems rather stupid imo :/
MillhioreF
Should be better now.

Would you describe how you did this? I would love to have the spinners on Aesthetics back up and running!

You shouldn't need to change the skin to make it work, according to Millhi it should be better now.

However, all I did was download the old skin template and then replaced all the files with similar names and didn't touch any extra files.

So is aesthetic supposed to be working right now?

Because it still isn't working for me, or did i miss something :P ?

I can confirm that approach circles still doesn't work on Minimalist Miku or Aesthetic.
Marcin
Something... weird happened with changelog.
thedarkjack
issue is definitely not "resolved". still no approachcircle on new style spinners.
MrRockk
Yeah the approach circles still don't work :l

Not really resolved!
MillhioreF
There was a problem with the code merge! It's resolved on test build, and will be for sure on next public build.
thedarkjack
thanks for the info.
MrRockk
:D Thanks Millh, my skins work perfectly fine now!
