what music&mapping genres is better for first ranked?

just really curious what genres of mapping and genres of music you think is the best if youre aiming for your first ranked mapset
im thinking about getting into all that mapping stuff lately but i dont know which way should i go
should i make maps for fun with the songs i love or should i start with generic aim (i love it too) to get better at editor first??
share your opinions :)

Popular songs in general will be able to attract bns. Map them in a simple style

i would argue mapping something you're having fun with is much more important than mapping something that is "likely" to get ranked, especially at this stage. forcing yourself to map something that you don't actually want to map, just for the sake of increasing your chances of ranking it (which, when you're just starting out, is pretty unrealistic either way), will probably just cause you to get frustrated and lose interest in mapping eventually.

absolutely any song works

afaik, mania (per-keymode) don't want songs with ranked maps there to be ranked again, but it seems to be fine for std and taiko

Definitely map songs that you like first. You can get anything ranked through sheer practice.

Or better yet, something popular, short (TV Size), and simply mapped.

it's best if you can pick a music and a mapping style that satisfies most of the Beatmap Nominators, as they are your first and most important target audience of all - if you can't get 2 nominations you're dead

i.e. if you pick CupcakKe songs, you're 900% getting rejected downhill to the point the devil said hi

try to prioritise Beatmap Nominators as your top audience when mapping for ranked, you want them to have some good reasons to nominate your map (you can also ask yourself what makes your map outstanding to have them nominate your map too) considering the influx of requests they receive every day

and the most important value in mapping - patience and dedication; beatmaps made without love will usually fail to achieve perfection

any song can be ranked i thinkwhat matters more is how u map it and know how to
jpop tv sizes have simple rhythms that are easy to map
if u map a complex song or map it in a way that is alot more controversial, thatll sway bns away
