All I see is a fandom built on the assumption "It's popular so it must be good" additionally with amount of dialogue in the games pair with amount of characters seems to suggest that the character's aren't really developed and the personalities are largly hijacked by fans rather than anything official. Seems more like Kantai Collection a lot of the time where people just pick the cute girl whose design works with their fetish and goes on that for their waifu.
