Can you explain touhou's popularity to me? All I see is a fandom built on the assumption "It's popular so it must be good" additionally with amount of dialogue in the games pair with amount of characters seems to suggest that the character's aren't really developed and the personalities are largly hijacked by fans rather than anything official. Lots of Anime girls have a kind personality. It's pretty much a defining characteristic of all Danderes. With both Touhou and Kancolle casts the characters get spread awfully thin leaving design really to only distinguishing factor to go on. I'd ask you how many Kancolle girls could be defined as having a kind personality but you probably don't even know the entire cast either. What really separates her from them? Remember this is someone you'd marry.

If you like it, you like it. You don't really need to explain why you like it, especially if others aren't explaining why they like their waifu's. It's because of taste, and you can't really explain something you like if the other person doesn't have your tastes.
Anime characters don't really need critical evaluations as why they're not as good as other anime characters. In the end, its completely your preference.

My original question was about why do people like touhou, I'm not forcing anyone but I figure if you enjoy something you probably have qualities you enjoy that you can talk about. I never saw the idea behind waifu's to announce this is my most fapable character. Maybe because I actually watch a lot of anime or something I have thousands of characters I like and theres a lot of overlap in personalities etc. "Why does this character stand out and not this similar one instead?" Should be a question that comes up.
You'd think that a thread dedicated to someones most loved character people would want to explain more but it still fell to OC's average level of discussion where every thread is pretty much a questionnaire.
