Question about hitsounds

I would like to know how hitsounds work, i mean which one is used in every case when i hit a note.

Cause i have this hit sounds, but i can't recreate the combo... i dont know how to make em ;_;

normal-hitnormal.wav, soft-hitnormal.wav - normal sound when you hit any note
normal-hitclap.wav, soft-hitclap.wav - every time you hit a note that has a clap on it.
normal-hitwhistle.wav, soft-hitwhistle.wav - every time you hit a note that has a whistle on it.
normal-hitfinish.wav, soft-hitfinish.wav - every time you hit a note that has a finish on it.

Also make sure you have "Use skin's sound samples" checked in Options.
