I'm not blind, so no. Quality is just too poor. Sometimes 1080p streams can rival the TV broadcasts, but rarely and if the BDs are out, forget about it.Revy- wrote:
Seriously just stream the shit. Like it takes up so much space. If i were to download my Anime i would not have a computer anymore.
Keep in mind that outside US, the situation isn't quite as great. Basically cruchyroll is the only one accessible outside US, and it is only some shows you can watch. Even popular shows like Bakemonogatari, Madoka and Attack on Titan, were unavailable and still are. (This season actually wasn't too bad, several of the popular ones were available.)Mogsworth wrote:
I only torrent things I can't stream legally. Because you know what's good? Actually monetarily supporting the folks who provide you with your entertainment. :T Animators need to make money, too, y'know. They make too little as is already.
I'm actually doing proper comparisons on video quality from time to time, I'm not someone that will simply sit and accept whatever shit is thrown to my face. I'm comparing against crunchroll against fansub encodes, also sometimes finding the TS from the Japanese TV broadcasts (which were quite interesting actually, if you are the slightest interested in video compression), to evaluate the fansub encodes better.Mogsworth wrote:
Also, stream video quality isn't actually that bad, provided you have a stable connection. Nobody needs 1080p during broadcast in general (most anime is made in 720p anyway, 1080p bluray releases are a different story) and streaming 720p isn't actually that bad. Not every stream is like the free video streams people are used to, ffs.
Well, yeah, the situation is different everywhere. I'd still say to legally stream when you can, as it does actually kick back money to people who do make your entertainment.Spiller wrote:

A lot of "I COULD simulcast legally but video quality" arguments come across as entitlement to me. Entitlement to believe that you shouldn't have to pay for your entertainment. Sure, if you can't legally acquire it where you are, that's one thing. But if an option presents itself and you have the ability to support the industry, even in a minuscule way, take it. Animators barely make living wages as is.Spiller wrote:

I'm mentioning the 1080p steams because they usually aren't too bad, upscale or not. They do still tend to have quite a bit of banding, and sometimes more significant issues. Varies from show to show though. The 720p have the same issues, just worse, so you would be better off watching the 1080p downscaled to 720p, than watching the provided 720p.
