osu sporadically not registering inputs from tablet in mouse mode

Problem details: When tablet mode is turned off in osu in order to use the tablet as a mouse, osu sporadically does not respond to inputs from the tablet. Tablet is a Wacom One, and computer is a Surface Pro 8. Pen works normally in mouse mode outside osu, and normal mouse works normally in osu. Problem was present but manageable (uncommon and didn't freeze cursor for as long) until I recently reinstalled windows.

How exactly would you want to use the tablet “as a mouse”?

I want to be able to aim with a motivity curve the same way I do when using my mouse on my desktop and other games (and have in osu for some time now). It's unusual but it's very much what I'm used to now.
