If you go straight to the Editor, and edit a map, the opacity of the background depends on how much you dimmed the background in the settings. For example, I put the background dim at 70% in the settings. Going straight to edit a map will make the background darker.
If playing a map first, then going to the editor will make the background okay. It's kind of annoys me when there's storyboard.

Make sure you have a dim set for global dim.
