[Archived] Timing Calculations Error

I used to run osu! on Windows 7 for quite some time with no problems. However, a couple of months ago I had to re-install my Windows, and the only one I had at my disposal was an old Win XP SP3 Professional. After that, whenever I play osu I get a pop-up about an error during timing calculations and that I should update my audio drivers. Now, obviously, I made sure my audio drivers are up to date. As soon as I installed this XP I used an application that contained all necessary up to date drivers and it automatically detected and installed the necessary ones. But since I was getting this error, I tried re-installing my audio drivers from a different source and updated them using a driver detection software, but I still keep getting the error. The actual timing in-game is slightly off, noticeable for an experienced player. This error does not seem to occur during Edit / Test play mode, as the timing feels good there. My audio drivers are: Realtek High Definition Audio. Would there be any solution for this? Thanks.

I don't know why it suggests that audio drivers are the culprit. Audio drivers are the least likely things to cause issues. It could be a hardware issue. I had my harddrive stuck in PI/O mode and that caused this problem.

Several people have had this issue in the last few days. I don't know what is the cause.

1) Try doing this test http://www.pcworld.com/product/1187146/ ... ecker.html
If your PC fails, try disabling devices and services that could cause the DPC latency.

2) Try checking if your Hard Drive is the culprit (this is related to the cause TheVileOne suggested). If you have enough RAM you can test playing from a RAM Drive.
  1. 1) Download an application to create RAM Disks: http://www.ltr-data.se/opencode.html/#ImDisk
Create a RAM disk of about 1GB.
  2. 2) Install the game there, and put a few songs in there (making sure it all fits in the RAM Drive).
  3. 3) Check if the issue still occurs.
3) Try using a Virtual Audio Cable
  1. Disable your Network Wireless adapter (use ethernet cable for Internet instead).
  2. Get VAC ( http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm ) Try the trial before to check if this solves the issue for you (The trial adds a voice to the audio device).
  3. Set the Virtual Audio Device as the default audio device.
  4. In VAC settings, set "ms per int" to 1.
  5. Use Audio Repeater (KS) to repeat audio from the virtual cable to the Realtek Device. Use 1 ms for the buffer time, with 30 buffer parts (if your PC gets slow, audio might crackle, if you want it to not crackle so easily use higher buffer time, but that would increase the audio latency).

Thank you for the responses.

I followed the instructions but none of the solutions fixed the problem. After looking through the links in TheVileOne's thread, I guess it's worth mentioning that I checked my hard drive for bad sectors and there was a damaged part. But the game worked fine on my previous Windows, and that damaged sector was still present then. And if it was because of my hard drive, then the ImDisk virtual drive solution should have helped, right? The error was still present after trying all of the above steps though. I mean, it's time for a new hard drive either way since my current one is failing, but I'd rather not buy a new one right away since there don't seem to be any real issues. Just trying to figure out this osu problem.
