A cybersecurity company named Crowdstrike managed to crash hundreds of systems across the globe, many for important infrastructure due to a bad update, it seems.Polyspora wrote:

This isn't even done by Microsoft, it's done by an cybersecurity company that had a large consumer base that numbered a lot of important infrastructure. I'm going to be honest, if this was a human mistake, this would have happened anyways, it's not like microsoft employees are less likely to make this mistake just because they're microsoft employeesWitherMite wrote:

it could have honestly been much worse if the botched update had come from microsoft and not a third partyWitherMite wrote:

Look man, even though a lot of the people on OT are tired of Linux, I'm open to have a conversation with you about it. I won't hate you for being passionate about the system, don't be ashamed about liking Linux just because of OT. I'll genuinely listen if you want to talk about your hobbies, or explain to me why Linux is good. KatouMegumi server is a better place to talk about it though, not so much here.Winnyace wrote:

I would argue more that:Patatitta wrote:

I think even there, most people are kind of sick of hearing me talk about it. It is okay, though. I understand that I hyperfixated on Linux for some time now.Ymir wrote:

no, I don't feel you, while the public image is of course very important, I do think that there is a substantial ammount of people who really don't feel the things people like you list as advantages are really advantages or really enough incentive to switch over or whatever, linux isn't objectively superior, and many people feel that windows/mac is just better for themWinnyace wrote:

1. People are disinterested because the image Linux still has, that of an OS that is unfriendly to beginners/non-technical people, thus the advantages come with a grain of salt automatically;
2. Those who have tried it likely didn't stick with it because they suffer from some issues that are simply resolved sticking with it.
I don't disagree with the first point, nor with the second one. My issue comes when people appreciate and make memes about it that are wrong. For example, take the "Linux users installing web browser" one. On most desktop distros, you have Firefox installed by default. You want another one? It is easily installable through the GUI package manager. You search for it, click install, and you can use it. From Google Chrome to Vivaldi to Edge.
Ultimately, use whatever you please, but I wish less people were to blindly follow anti-Linux memes, you feel me?
Never really thought about googling something I wasn't interested in the first place. Random discussions are better places to get information on things you don't care about!xch00F wrote:

Which is more than okay. As I said, my issue are the memes that are taken as gospel by some. I can't too mad about it, though, since I'm sure I did or I am doing a similar at this very moment, without really realizing.Patatitta wrote:

I'd argue that the main reason ppl don't flock to linux is "windows still works fine for me, why bother switching?"Winnyace wrote:
