i experience a very similar phenomenon here with everyone, it's that strange association you draw about people's personalities through connections between profile pictures and tone of text, and specifically the topics someone chooses to respond to or what topics they choose to contribute to a conversation, all of that changes this kind of perspective

but the pfp specifically, that can have a super significant effect
i do happen to be at least partly a serious and introspective person, but that's not all i am and i'm not really strictly this flat-affect skeleton persona i used to carry with me for all those years since 2016 or so. i'm actually fairly childish and maladjusted, i just happen to have had a lot of experience repressing myself emotionally for... life reasons, really, from that time period. it also helped that it allowed me to be taken a little more seriously, so i focused on trying to learn how to be as reasonable as i could hope to be at the time

i'm not necessarily less reasonable now, but a lot of how i approach ot is now occupied by a much wider range and profile of what kind of personality i share. a lot of it can look and feel performative but there's an underlying sincerity in that, and i think it can be argued that most people, even if they have high-affect emotive text styles, are probably quite sincere about it and type that way as a result of numerous environmental factors in addition to simply expressing how they like to express themselves

in this case i changed the pfp because i literally got so sick of this stale old pfp ;o; it's not like i abandoned the skeleton character but it's not really totally reflective of anything and i'm bored with it so, "why not" is the thought process, i suppose

instead i'm using a different character entirely. i genuinely do wonder how that affects the way you perceive me as well as how this associative-property of a pfp affects your perception of other people as well

a change in pfp is pretty easily noticed but i can't say much about how much it changes the vibe of the user

i don't totally remember how i experienced/perceived you, but i think... it might work similar to a sort of... "network of associative consistency", if that makes sense.

to elaborate, if the things you say + the interests you express + the typing style you have all happen to give an impression of you (in this case, "calm" + "furry-adjacent" to keep it simple), then sometimes your pfp will kind of "characterize" or bring "flavor" to that impression, and everything from there on will depend on how that total sum of ingredients/impressions will appear in full. if your pfp changes and the image contains an anthropomorphic bull, then usually my impression is not going to be any different, because that's already how i perceive/imagine you

i view you positively, partly because of those impressions, but also because your interactions here seem consistent with those impressions in that you're not particularly provocative, you don't seem particularly callous, you just... are here, lingering and living quietly and enjoying what you find, more or less

and so you seem comfortable to be around as a result. i don't actually have a clear sense of who you are as a person beyond this, and i don't remember people's qualities very well beyond these basic impressions, but, that's how i think it might happen to work for me
