[resolved] [confirmed] Keysounded Mania maps are silent

Problem Details:
Link to the aforementioned song
This song is fully keysounded, where the song doesn't play unless you hit the notes. It used to play perfectly, but when i went to play it today none of the notes played any sound. After checking all of the related settings, testing it in the current release of as well as the test version, and even in edit mode, nothing fixed it. I even checked out another song that I know to be keysounded, but it played perfectly.

I believe something happened to it in a recent update, but i'm not entirely sure what would've caused it.

I'm experiencing the same issue, i tried installing the test build (which i then removed again because it wasn't the issue with it)

This issue is also with smooooch (by DJPop) where the skins sounds are used instead of those already placed for the beatmap.
If not it's with most keysounded beatmaps, some maps work and some others don't.
and yes, i can confirm that the issue wasn't there with the previous build as a friend of mine who forgot to update, tried to play Imperishable Night 2006 for me and said it all worked fine for him. After updating his client, the same issue would haunt him too.

It might be due to the fact that osu no longer supports ogg files,

so i'm not sure what should happen with these maps

Nope, famishin uses ogg as well...

looking back at my video, when i opened imperishable night in edit mode, it was looking for hit_1.wav, when the file is hit_1.ogg
i just checked now, and famishin still looks for xxxxx.ogg, so maybe something got autoconverted oddly there??

Confirming; this is caused by a change today done to heavily reduce memory usage. osu! used to load all mp3/wav/ogg files in the folder in case they were hitsounds, but now doesn't seem to load custom samples after that was optimized.

These maps are actually broken. The .osu files refer to .wavs, where only .oggs exist. Please list any other maps that exhibit these symptoms and we will look at fixing the maps.

You can add https://osu.ppy.sh/b/193127 to the list.
Notice that the first sounds plays correctly... Even if there's only .oggs for the sound files...

My keysounds aren't silent. but it uses original osu! keysounds (drums, claps, whistles, etc.) instead.

Hitsounds on this map work just fine on my end. Make sure you don't have custom hitsounds actually disabled by skin / sound options.

This map is also broken, it uses sampleset-hitsoundXX for each hitsound that is drum-hitfinish32.ogg for ex. But when I actually checked beatmap, it uses only default ones. I don't really get how this even works, so I'm leaving it to some mania mapper

i also found that map's hitsound is broken too..
the Yuuna sasara - imperishable night 2006's keysound are silent and no sound at all :P
before the update, i never experience this...

This would be too much fixing, some maps would be left broken when nobody notices. What about ignoring the extension completely and looking for all compatible formats? What was the old behavior?

Custom sounds are working fine when they're in either custom set 1 or 2, not otherwise.

No, the problem is the osu! files. They have incorrect filenames.

The last number indicates the set of custom sounds. Those using 2 have the sounds they were intended to be.
Otherwise, 29 and 30 here, have default sounds. Looks like they're not being loaded at all.

If osu file is the problem, why some of the sounds still works fine? Shouldn't they be completely wrong?

This also shows that ogg files are still works fine, even though you usually tell it's not supported by osu! :roll:

This has broken many mania maps :(
I tried converting all .oggs in Famishin - Mecha Koi Ranman- to .wav files, then changing all references to them in the .osu file, but still nothing, strangely.

Please fix this issue as soon as possible. Most mania maps depend solely on custom hitsounds and with this issue having around, it creates a great impact among the mania community, especially the mappers. :(

.mp3 and .wav sample not working too. not only .ogg keysound but also .wav and .mp3 hitsound are muted in all mania mapset.

Please provide any broken maps in this thread so they can be fixed. The issue is with the .osu files themselves, not the game.

I've fixed on case of samples not working where they should have been on test build. Please go test your maps to see how this works.
