osu! content is decaying and we need to save it

I have noticed the past several months how lackluster the content is especially on TikTok.

Around ~2021-2022, osu "tiktokers" blew up YouTube shorts, TT, hell even IG reels. The formula for it was simple;

- 3 star map
- RGB vomit setup or minimalist setup
- Cringe ass song and (from what I've seen) a shit ton of tags in the description.

However, since this type of content relies on unknowledged people who haven't seen any videos on osu before or played it, eventually people will move on like with other memes.

This also cultivates a stigma that all osu players are cringe-lords and do nothing with their life (even with influx of "Girls must love his fingers").

Sytho is currently the only top player I know that keeps up somewhat with the TikTok meta and doesn't have the humor of a genuine toddler.

And with there being a bias among the osu community toward TikTok being Satan's butthole in terms of dopamine-fueling media, you'll notice how lackluster and mediocre any osu! Content there is that isn't a scorepost.

So, what do we do?

Here's two options that might work.

1. Copying Jynxzi's tactics
You might not know who Jynxzi is or anything about R6, but he singlehandedly revived R6 because he knows how the algorithm works.
• Screaming and goofy autistic behavior so he can relate to his viewers
• Being good at R6
• Using slang terminology to help get viewers to spread his cancer
• Connecting with other streamers like CaseOh and keeping up with the rapidly changing TikTok meta to keep his videos afloat.

2. Meme culture
• Take Geometry Dash for example. Unique game and unique mechanics that you would think would be diverse in humor. However, the main things like "Fire in the Hole" and the normal difficulty are easily memeable things since they're new to many TikTok folk.

Until either of these statuses are met, osu content will continue to struggle, directly affecting the game as well since peppg needs money. Hopefully the situation improves.

idk, most people who watch that type of osu! tiktoks doesn't really even play osu, I don't think it's too big of a deal that osu tiktoks are absolute garbage fire

whatever happened to making actually fun maps, and not just memes or copycats? i realize fun is subjective, but theres a reason so many people loved the original games.

the fact that this game is 16 years old and still going tells me that its going to take a lot to take this ship down.

my recommendation? make maps people will want to play and revisit, not just something that gets you clicks on social media.

so true but i think osus player base is relatively cringe inherently or at least rn so im not expecting funny osu content creators to emerge anytime soon fr

osu content isnt really profitable, and will get less so as it continues getting more popular, all because of copyright.

Especially since popular maps are usually of japanese songs, and jp copyright laws are super strict.

Cant expect people to put effort into something that might get them nothing in return. Even people that do it just because they like content creation have it hard since it can be taken down or banned in multiple countries.

For stuff discussing about gameplay, strategy to farm pp, current events, players, improvement, scientific take within osu, game mechanics, content covering about more niche gameplay style on osu. For all of this, I'm definitely agree.

But you imply within tiktok and from my perspective, it's more of a 'osu content about trend and familiarity is decaying' rather than the content itself. Because all of that doesn't bother with osu itself, but rather on how to gain clout as effective as possible, and osu is happened to me one of a thing they might use. My take is that this kind of stuff that invites simple-minded comments are expected. It's not like it's being made for the sake of introducing the game to wider people.

Because of the nature of this game being community-driven/ Osu is a game that's not designed to be sold. There's little if any appeal that are being deliberately designed and brought to the people. The nature of osu is requiring people to be invested. For example, to learn how to play the game, to find tons of maps, to research what is the best tablet for them, to sink in time for painstaikingly improving, only to meet dead ends, to troubleshoot their own technical issues within the game, so on and so forth. How this relates for osu content is that it is hit or miss for new players. They can stick in and become another osu player but they can also just forget about it after a week or so playing.

This game have existed even older than some of it's playerbases age. It's definitely have it's own culture and history in video gaming. Like the other have said, it's still alive going back far into time until today. So I'm not entirely sure what you are proposing is going to aim for

my personal opinion osu content is that there is wayyy too much of a focus into making osu hypercompetitive and forcing people to try to improve and I believe this is unhealthy for the game

Imo osu content can only go so far

Its not like other games where you can be given proper improvement advice or where its actually fun to watch someone play around in it

The best content that can be made is just peoples best scores or stoopid ass history videos

At least the tiktok slop channels are hitting a new demographic

TikTok-ers opinions should not and will not be counted. Full Stop.

you CAN make osu videos that are not cented around improvement or achivements. I don't even watch gameplays myself, yet, you still can make a lot of stuff with osu.

I really enjoyed WubWoofWolf's videos of him working on completion/sorting. I would love to see more content of that sort of thing. I thought about doing it myself but I dont think I have the storage or time to do that.

osu tiktoks are created for non osu players who get mindblown on like 10 second 2 star maps

I mean, literally. Opinions coming from T*kT*k regardless of the topic should not be counted.

TikTok opinions are hot trash. It's for a population whose attention span had become utter garbage, and the toxicity of "this video is too long" is due to the fact that, it's old-school for a video's length to be 20-30 minutes long.

this is honestly a little bit of wishful thinking, while it is true that people in tiktok optimize more for lower attention span. Back in the day there were a lot of yt channels spamming their bullshit opinion or even just summarising some drama no one cared giving no input on it and just spammed that. They always were 10 minutes and 1 second too, since 10 minutes was what was needed in order to get midrolls ads and make more money

today people do that exact same thing but slightly more professional, and in tiktok the same thing but idk I don't use itktok idk what's the situation there
