What do you think about Apple?

Title. Please, let's keep this thread somewhat on topic. Last time, the thread kinda went out of control.

My personal opinion on Apple
They're now more of a luxury brand than a tech one. They market themselves brilliantly and know their target audience very well.
They provide products which are fine, but overpriced and limiting if you want to use the tech inside them to their fullest. You have to play within a small area of a massive sandbox. They're weirdly hostile to anything that would resemble cooperation with fellow tech companies. Take Metal, their
graphics API, and how it basically only works on Apple products and nothing else.
Their stance on right to repair is also very mixed, mostly being against it from what I've seen, which is problematic to say the least. Overall, I think they're kinda overhyped, as their products are limiting and their business plan is based around being different and special, even if it comes at a cost for everybody else in the industry and sometimes the whole world.

They were innovators when the first iPhone came, now there just selling overprized shit
UPR
Ah learning from starting with the biased discussion? very good /j

Anywho apple is an L for me, been a Samsung user for a while now I am a Google shill. Made some decent tech way back but now they are just silicone capitalist stereotypes like a lot of old tech companies. They have the marketing skills of politicians but the bite of a Chihuahua if it was trying to bite your collar to spend another $1200USD on their phones (even if it has "better quality tech" and 4 cameras) but then again I am unabashedly biased against Apple. I don't care if you have one nor will I have you try to convince me its the better one or to buy one (my stance on it basically)

That's not even true, the iPhone didn't bring anything new to the market, it's just that previous attempts at making what we now call smartphones didn't have nearly as much marketing and failed
Also when it was announced it didn't even work lol

They're a luxury brand, like every other luxury brand they just sell average products at outrageous prices because you pay for the social status you believe it represents, not the product

Also their practice of trapping people into their ecosystem is reason enough to avoid all their products
The worst part is victims of that high on copium saying things like "you can do everything with Apple products, it all works together it's great for productivity", yeah you can do the same only using Microsoft products but the difference is that you don't have to

I already stopped counting the versions after the iPhone X. I was never a fan of iPhone in general... plus the phones are getting way too expensive for nothing...

goated phones, everything else is meh
Dementedjet
They know how to make money, that's one thing I know for sure

Their tech by itself is not even that bad, heck, it's really good, but the prices and the isolationist relations with other tech companies make up for the tech and make the company "eh, it's alright"

But if you want a real discussion, just go into any tech forum and find the 'android vs ios' or 'windows vs macos' discussion, there will be hundreds of arguments why one is bad and vice versa

I'm more interested to see what the common folk thinks, to be honest.

Brand new iPhone 69? Must Buy, Must Consooom!

As someone aspiring to be interior designer and artist on my own time, I don't buy into the notion that 'apple is made for the creatives' out there. Sure, their product is polished and pristine, the seamless experience is tempting. But what is a deal-breaker for me is:

• Their overpriced nature. To be bluntly speaking, I don't have money. So I won't purchase something extraordinarily priced, for little in return.

• Their restrictive walled garden nature. I have whatever control in my own device

• I can't sail the high seas anymore, or at least not as swiftly as before

• Anti-repairment and pretentious 'going green' campaign

• I simply can't see the way to fully utilise them. Even if I have the money and the want, I don't know how their product is going to help my needs for learning, for developing my skills, and for finding job opportunity

Apple products just isn't for me, maybe people just really like them and I'm not

Apple does have that advantage: Apple products work well with each other. Problem is that you need multiple of them to really take advantage of that AND they're all really expensive AND you really don't need this level of integration unless you're a professional, and even then I would argue that it isn't a necessary thing as much as a quality of life improvement.

Hello guys in this video I will be selling my kidney on the dark web to buy the new iPhone 69 Pro Max Ultra+! (Because I want to appear rich to get popularity, even though the doctor told me I will die in 5 seconds)

Yeah but the thing is you can also do that without Apple, it's not like they do it better than the others
I remember having to work with an Apple fanboy and when I asked why we had to work on Mac he was like "It's great, everything is integrated, I can even have my emails/text messages on both phone and pc, don't need to take out my phone while working etc."
The thing is I'm on Windows and have an Android phone and I can do that too pretty easily, in fact I used to before realising I'd rather have each thing in their own place (but that's just me I guess)
It's also much less relevant now than it was a decade ago considering the ubiquity of SaaS (gmail, Discord... you can even have Steam on your phone, whatever the point of that is)
It was probably a nice thing when it was new but unless you were already trapped in the Apple ecosystem it was never really worth it imo

Oh don't get me wrong, you absolutely can do that on other platforms, but Apple seems to have made it so dumb simple that even a non-computer individual can do it. The fact that such tech is now available elsewhere too just as easily. Take KDE Connect.

Something I forgot about Apple is that the only real usecase I could think of is professional creative applications. It seems Adobe, which is the defacto standard for professional creative work, has better optimization on Macs than on Windows. For music production, everybody swears to Apple for it. I'm not sure why, to be honest why, but they all do. I guess for them, easy transfer between devices, without setup, is a nice bonus. It isn't revolutionary though and for most people, as you said, it is kinda useless.

Music is what I worked on a Mac for, back then it had Logic Pro, which is a great DAW and from what I heard there wasn't really anything as good for Windows at the time
Nowadays though it seems a lot of professionals switched to Windows so I guess they got better

Worst thing I had to use a Mac for was coding, I'd rather use vim that doing that ever again (but luckily I'll likely never have to write code again)

If you have lowercased the word "Apple" like that => "Apple" then I would have bought of it already, but because it's "Apple" and not "apple" I'm now about to say the n-word to Apple right now! >=(

I dont want an <insert brand here> ecosystem, I just want shit to work with whatever I need it to, not have to pay more money to get something approved by a large corporation so it will supposedly work a bit better.

I have never used apple software before so I wont judge that, but I'm just not willing to try them based on the company and how anti-consumer they are.
Lyawi
I'm more into the design and camera quality compared to other brands. I honestly really dislike how iOS handles apps in background (IRC will disconnect after 30s) and it doesn't seem as stable.

The prime example of how Capitalism can gone wrong. On the plus side they have good software support and their UI is smooth af. But that comes at a cost of repairability and basically starts a bad trends among hardware manufacturers. Such as removing headphone jack and stuffs. Not to mention that they have REALLY BAD integrations outside of their ecosystems (which costs like an arm and a leg). And you have next-to-no control of you files AT ALL (at least in iPhone and iPad since I never used Macs).

Speaking of headphone jacks, I still remembered this ad from Samsung before they basically do the same things lol

If I had to guess, no wires meant a sense of luxury given. If their main headphones weren't wired, why keep having it?

Wired or not, it's the same thing anyway. People need to stop buying wireless things just to feel "luxurious"

Well, why so? I think most people nowadays buy such earphones/headphones because they see them as more convenient than their wired counter-parts, not more luxurious, but I could be wrong.
anaxii
That's because wireless headphones for example are more expensive and less annoying to use, so it appeals to people.
