The biggest problem, in my opinion, with Kill la Kill's fanbase is that while their arguments for the show being about growing up through puberty make a lot of sense it still feels a little odd that they have to put that out there as if to validate enjoying the show. People are saying that the show is not a gender-related problem because of such-and-such metaphors but if that really was the case they could've also made the show not glorify the ridiculous fanservice? It's the same feeling I get when somebody makes something ironically bad or other "genre-savvy" media where you make fun of this or that and putting yourself above it by... doing the exact same thing, which just feels very disingenious to me. Kill la Kill never gives you any reason to not fawn over the fanservice, and it's still going to sell figmas and merchandise and people are still gonna jack it to the characters, so in my opinion that somewhat undermines the positive message for women that people read in the show.
