yeah honestly the pilot was pretty weak ngl, one of the weakest i've seen if I had to be honest

text dump

First of all, i'm not a fan of this type of comedy, I'm just not a fan of shows and stuff putting the garry's mod sound effect or just perfectly-cut scream in general

now, i'm aware that it IS a pilot, however, the plot seems to be kinda of weak?, the story concept isn't really new at all, it's just an isekai, and it doesn't seem to put the twist on it that a game like CrossCode would put on it. It's also marketed as horror, which it absolutely isn't, i've seen drama movies that are like 30 times scarier than this

and while there isn't still much plot to criticise, what we have layed down alerady is the story structure, what type of comedy they plan to use, what concepts seems to be important, etc. And for that, it's just seem it's going to have a bunch of theory-bait and clippable sections each scene, and that just doesn't make for that good of a show. Most actually amazing scenes in movie comes thanks to it being setup before, the last scene of whiplash wouldn't have hit as hard as it did if it wasn't for the entire movie leading up for it, and for that, the movie has these slow silets shot of just looking at the main character from a hallway, and that scene is not clipable, but without that scene the movie wouldn't be nearly as good. TADC doesn't seem to do any of that

the dialogue also seem pretty bland IMO, I don't really like when characters makes these on your nose jokes, since for me the character just seems more of a plot device to keep the flow of the show going, than actual characters. If I know a character is willing to just say whatever shit the show needs it to say in order to keep the viewers attention, I know that probably there hasn't been much effort put into the dialogue, this is one of the main problems I had with over the garden wall, you cant just sacrifice a lot of the dialogue for stuff like that and then expect for your important dialogue to hit hard

not only that, but I feel this is trying to tackle the wrong subjects, because this IS a kid-friendly show, which there is nothing wrong with, but there are certain things that you cant cover with kid friendly show, at least in a proper way. This pilot really talks about how there isn't any danger to anyone, it's just the decaying mental state of everyone involved. This is a good concept, I like it, however, you must portray that without having these slower psychological scenes that it desperatly needs, and you cant portray elements like self-harm either, you cant make a character actually feel like they're in a profound and uncomfortable to watch ammount of pain.

Again, my favourite movie of all time, whiplash, if that concept was taken for a kid show it wouldn't have been nearly as good. It would have been a lot more shallow if you couldn't include the absolutely brutal dialogue from fletcher, which again, also requires of slower sections, for example the famous scene of rushing and dragging, it's 5 minute long, with the first 2 minutes just being andrew playing and being forced to repeat, TAMD doesn't take the time to set those scenes up and even if they could, they cant even do anything particullary deep with it

I just dont agree with the philosophy of TADC, it just seems weak, as a video it's fine, as a kids show it's fine, but I have had this personally recommended to me as a show, but it's just doesn't hold up

It's a pilot bro, of course the pilot is not going to be perfect. A pilot only introduce the characters and situation setting, it doesn't tell us a concrete story yet. It's a first jump to see if people are hyped for the series.

yeah, and I judget it's as a pilot, a pilot shows the structure, the themes, the characters, the art-style, the VO, etc. And it just happens that the goal that the show tries to achieve doesn't seem like it can be done, the characters does seem kind of bland, the story setting is generic, it is not scary, it does not have slow moments or setup, etc, I do think this is fair criticism, all of these elements are what a pilot are supposed to show, and they show them, and they show them being pretty bad all-around

I AM enjoying you enjoy this series, however, if you post a thread publicly saying this is the best pilot anaxii has seen that far, and asks everyone to watch it, I'm going to watch it and give my opinion, and if my personal opinion is somehow killing your enjoyement for the show, I don't think that is my problem. Giving criticism is not killing the enjoyement of something

And I totally agree with you. That's what the pilot was made for, so that people can give fair criticism on what's good and what needs to be improved. I'm sure that when the first episode will come out, all these problems will already be solved. It's not like it was going to be a 20/20 from the start.. it would have been nice but it's not realistic

also, to anaxii, that you posted while I was personally writting this and now I cant really quote you, you were in fact selling it as a 20/20, with "I SWEAR YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED I STG", and given the overwhelmingly positive reception, I don't think they're going to change any of that, because the general community hasn't given it this criticism

People are allowed to like & not like things. Please don’t force others to like or not like things, or make them feel wrong for having an opinion (as long as the thing isn’t morally reprehensible, of course). Not a callout on anyone in particular, just a reminder.

That said, I’m one of the likes. Not a fan of modern SMG4 or Murder Drones, but I am a fan of Gooseworx & Kevin Temmer, so this was a treat

As far as I know, ther is still only the pilot, and given there is no indication of when the series is going to release, I think it would be advised just to wait and see. Even if you like the pilot, given the long ammount of time, there for sure has been changes to the staff working on the show, so you cant really say if that's the level of quality that it's going to maintain for the entire series. It's better just to wait

A pilot is not really an episode that represents the entire show, it only shows the characters and the places with details and stuffs, at least, that's what I think

the pilot thing started with television, a lot of the times making a tv show is a risky move financially, so for long-running shows, they often emit only chapter 1 first, which is called the pilot, and then if that gets good ratings, the next of the chapters get funded. Some times the pilot isn't really even chapter 1 but another extra chapter. However, in this YT era, a lot of the time the pilot doesn't mean much since you know they're going to do the full series anyways

normally they sell the IP's to people who has already proven work in the past, for example if for some reason hideo kojima wanted to make a game of the amazing digital circus, they could do it. But if you have no real curriculum before it's not a good idea. You don't know the skills of the dev, you don't know if the dev is going to finish the actual game, and you don't know if that game is good, because if you sell your IP to people that will make shit games, that will damage your brand.
