[Archived] osu! not working under Windows Vista w/ Extended Kernel

Problem details: osu! hard-crashes while running Vista with the Extended Kernel installed. Doesn't happen on stock vista, nor does it happen with older clients, and I didn't run System Restore to make a backup beforehand, so I'm stuck with Extended Kernel unless I reinstall, which I really don't want to do.

osu! version: Stable 20230814.2 (latest)

OS Version: Windows Vista SP2 w/ Extended Kernel v20230309 (NT 6.0.6003 SP2)

Try running Osu! in compatibility mode (Set it on Vista ofc)
You could also try running the Osu!.exe as administrator.

If this worked, no problem.
If it didn't, just reply to this message.

i'll try when I get home
(will do both Vista compatibility and xp compatibility just to be safe)

You ever figure anything out? I have gotten the latest stable to work on everything except this. I've even implemented my own fixes for more modern .NETs and gotten them to work. However, it still crashes.

I never managed to get it working, sadly. My need for Extended Kernel has greatly diminished anyway, due to Supermium getting Vista support.

That really stinks... I've gotten the latest stable to work on older operating systems with relative ease including NT4. For some reason Vista has it's own unique issue with running OSU. Appreciate you.

Stock Vista worked perfectly for me, it was only when I installed the Extended Kernel that it broke. Now, though, osu! refuses to launch on any of my pre-NT6.1 environments, since I tried both XP and Vista and they gave me an error which reads: "System.Exception: Unsigned Executable!" on both the installer and the client itself. Not sure if it's a certificate issue or maybe my copies of the OSes just don't like unsigned executables, but they don't want to work, period.
