I absolutely love FL and I've been playing it for over 2 years at this point. The only time I can play a single map for hours at a time is if I'm grinding for an FL score. I actually think FL is a very underappreciated mod because any difficulty past easy or normal you're hardly going to see an FL score unless it's Fop, liswiera, -gn, etc., not to mention the satisfaction of setting a score only a couple of people have done or even being the first person to FL (or any FL with mod combos) a map.
Obviously I'm not some insane FL player, but I do find the mod to be extremely fun.

Anyways, take kalanluu's top plays for example. They're obviously disgustingly overweighted. Kalanluu could never achieve a score remotely near that high of a pp value without FL. It was a lot worse before, too. (I don't intend to insinuate that he is a bad player, but I believe what I said to be the truth)

Flashlight mod takes crazy memorization skill or pure dedication. It's always respectable seeing people grind out maps with fl. Idk how we ended up talking about ez mod but as a ez player that mod is part of me now and ez + fl go together like bread and butter imo
edit: the reason I think fl is cool is because some really good plays with fl can take 1000+ attempts and requires you to actually look inside the editor, create practice diffs, techniques etc. instead of mindlessly tapping circles. Fl plays are extremely unique, most diffs in the game don't even have a single fl fc because of how demanding it is to learn maps and most fl plays can't be sniped in a single try by even the best players in the game.

Well Flashlight is one hell of a grind! especially when you choose to do HDFL on a low ar map.
FL on a low ar beatmap is actually easy, but if you use hidden it becomes the complete opposite, because the notes are like already invisible once you get from one object into another..
Although I thankfully got a FL FC that I was proud of..

Because lets just forget that every mod even nomod in some cases has very overweight and very underweight plays, but most of the time overweight FL plays are only set by a handful of people because either way the score takes a lot of time and dedication, you don't click on someone's profile and see their entire top plays filled with FL, instead you'll most likely see (HD)DT. Let's remember that Zan'ei HDHR could give you 600+PP or ReLief +DT can still give 500PP, I have a 5 miss at the end of the map to put things into perspective. FL has been the only mod that has contested DT for the PP record in 4 years, the last PP record that was with HR(not paired with DT of course) was 4 years ago being idke's Songs Compilation +HR being 1,035PP (nerfed to 992.79PP).Naiad wrote:

Of course every mod combo has both overweight and underweight scores, but FL has the ability to turn nearly any long map without high mechanical difficulty into something overweight, whereas other overweight scores are generally dependent on the patterns, not the mods, lol (zanei was overweight hr, nomod, dt, maps like the unforgiving are clearly not anywhere near the level of overweight they are with FL on any of those mods). that's why zanei isnt comparable to unforgiving FL or because maybe FLMrSparklepants wrote:

You still have to take into consideration the memorization difficulty which is its own skill, under most high PP plays there days of memorization and hundreds of practice difficulty attempts. Take Liswiera for example, they stream their FL attempts and it usually takes them multiple days and a lot of practice diffs. Not to mention Liswiera has been playing FL for many years at this point which means they can probably memorize maps way faster than someone who doesn't play FL.Naiad wrote:

I just think it's disingenuous to say that just because a map does't have a high mechanical difficulty that it is overweight with FL, take the unforgiving +FL for example, it took -GN 90 hours (3 3/4 days of memorization) just to memorize the map and get an FC attempt on it, the mechanical difficulty is pretty easy, but the amount of memorization deserves at least some recognition as it is quite literally almost an hour long. At the end of the day you're combining multiple mechanical skills such as aiming and tapping with memorization which at least to me is extremely impressive and deserves high PP plays.
If these maps are so overweight why aren't more players attempting them (unforgiving only has ~7 FL scores with more than 300PP)?
