I started playing Osu! February 2023, and I've been playing for 6 months. I am now glabally ranked #980k. Is my progress too slow, or is it going fine?

Everything is fine! You don't need to worry about your progression right now. As long as you enjoy the game, you'll improve like everyone

Don't worry about rank or how fast you're improving compared to others. If you aren't the type that gets pumped at having people to compare yourself against, imo it's not worth the added stress and frustration.
While I will give the same blanket response I'd give to anyone at your rank to not over-play 3-4* maps while you're new and just barely under 7-digit (you really should stick to 1-2* maps until you reach the 700K range), just be sure to play at whatever pace you're comfy with and progress as fast or as slow as you need to. Whether it takes you weeks, months, or years, you'll get to playing those 3-4* maps comfortably in time.
EDIT: If you do want more of a challenge or dedicated goal, I'll be doing a challenge for next month that you're welcome to join. I basically never have anyone 900K+, so it'd be nice to have a bracket for that.

You have a 62pp top play, Back when i was rank 900k/1M, i only had like 27 pp top play
Until i discovered padoru padoru and CBCC
FC'ed Padoru Sotarks' map 3* diff
And DT CBCC and it became 4*.
Almost FC'ed it, but sadly i got slidebreaks
Still got 40+ pp top play UNTIL i was 700k and DTHR SS'ed a 3* map and got 66pp, that was my top play until i got a 67pp top play on rank 600k
But do not pp farm much though, or else you are gonna end up like me right now.
Spend more time playing the game and you will get better and eventually get lots of pp!
So, start playing 4* maps, they will increase your pro skills at osu!
