Is it okay to have "strong" and "weak" map types?

I'm fairly new still, but I've noticed certain maps I'm much worse at than others, mainly being pretty awful at maps with lots of simple flowing patterns and double-taps, like a lot of Sotarks style maps or lots of farm-style maps I tend to suck at. Doing a 4* like this beatmapsets/1297248#osu/2691260 feels more comfortable than doing this 3.3* map beatmapsets/1639480#osu/3346254 for example. I alternate since I could never get used to single-tapping so maybe that's why the latter type of map feels more difficult.

I mean everyones going to have skills they are better or worse at, you can still always work to improve your weak skills though.

Also alternating wont hold you back from a certain kind of map, if you find it more comfortable theres no real reason to force yourself to singletap, for the most part alt is just better. you just might have to work a bit harder at first to get good enough finger control and accuracy.

Everyone will always have a "weak" type and a "strong type. EVERYONE. It's just that the best players have practiced enough that either A.) the difference between their strongest and weakest is minimal enough to not be worth mentioning, or B.) the difference between even their weakest and average--nevermind their weakest and strongest--is made up for by putting conscious effort into improving it.

It won't hurt you to avoid your weakest maps, necessarily, but having the ability to play any type to some decent standard won't ever be a hindrance, either.

I try to play all map types and not really avoid stuff per se, but I do find myself gravitating to the ones I feel more comfortable doing and was afraid I was going to limit myself or something like that if I did so. I'll try to keep at my weaker ones too.

It's also good to hear about the alternating not being a hold back, I definitely struggle with finger control regarding it but have been slowing improving it as I play more. I tried to do single tap as well, but I felt much less comfortable with it even after giving it a solid amount of attempts.

The only thing that matters is that you enjoy playing the game. If you would take pride in having a diverse skillset, then you should build on it. If you really enjoy one skillset more than all the others, then there is nothing wrong with playing exclusively that skillset.

It's not a problem! If you feel like, for example, you're better on a map with jumps than on a map with streams, then it's okay. You just need to know that you can always improve on any skillsets so you can be better at everything.
