Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun
If you aren't sensitive to graphic imagery or dark themes, then I definitely recommend you to watch it. I can't go into much detail because of spoilers, but the 2nd season of Made in Abyss is the most beautiful yet the most depressing show I've ever laid my eyes upon.
The story goes with Riko and Reg adventuring down the abyss, a massive hole in the middle of an island that extends so deep it's length is unknown. The deeper you go down in the abyss, the more of it's curse will have an effect on you. If you ever try to go up in the abyss, you will experience severe pain to even death equal to how deep you've gone. Their objective is to find Riko's mother, the most well-known adventurer of the abyss, and to possibly get the answers to Reg's unkown origin.
The setting and worldbuilding is possibly the most unique and well-executed I've seen from fiction. It fully immerses you in it's world as you feel like you're journeying together with the main characters. The visuals and the scenery are just downright beautiful to look at, yet it gives you a melancholy feeling the deeper we go down in the abyss. And it's themes are exponentially given more depth through peak story and character writing, and hits even more harder than the 1st season (which was already a great show to begin with).
The Golden City of the Scorching Sun and Made in Abyss in general is an experience that will leave a lasting impact on you. If you give it a try, then you definitely won't be disappointed.
Same for me maybeWimpy Cursed wrote:
