Da-don! Hello there!
I wrote this thread for Taiko Beginners who try this game for the first time and need some practice in it. This projects has various maps which contain patterns you will need for your Taiko-journey! To be prepared for the world of Taiko and know what it actually is, you can read this thread, da-don!

  1. What is Taiko? Taiko is a drum game which is rhythm oriented. We only have two notes: Don and Kat, which each of them can be hit by two buttons.
  2. What are the key configurations? At the beginning it is: X,C button - Red circle (Don) and Z,V button - Blue circle (Kat).
If you want, you are able to change them in "Option → Input → Change keyboard binding → osu!taiko".
  3. Are there any skins? Yes, we have many custom skins which some of them are made in an authentic way. If you are interested, you can check this link.

Don and Kat are the regular notes.
Big Don and big Kat can be beaten with two buttons for their representative color. Hit them right and you gain x2 points!
Sliders can be beaten with all buttons. Just try to hit in time.
Spinner must be beaten with Don and Kat alternately.

Let's put this into action with this tutorial map: b/1176999(map deleted)

[--------------------Basic--------------------]

Now since you know the basics, lets try some patterns:

Thank you so much for this. I love taiko and would love to be able to show off to IRL friends when I don't have my tablet :P

Wonderful, thanks. Going to try Taiko later!

This is such a great way to practice.
Thank you very much for this!
I think I love you now (?)

Thanks for this awesome tutorial!

Quick question though, do you have a map as difficult as Pink Turbo, but has a speed of Samurai? The gap between those two songs is a bit too much for me. Thanks

OnosakiHito
Sure. I will add pretty soon some ranked Taiko-sets which you can pratice on!
kikiotsuka
thanks! Also something that bugged me for a while is that you made a typo and said Fink turbo instead of Pink Turbo.
Cannifos
Hey, thank you very much for making this. I am having a lot of trouble transitioning into the advanced section, I can play all the sample songs well enough, but Pink Turbo is extremely hard for me. Would you really consider this song 7 stars? Compared to the first 8 star song we play, Pink Turbo seems a lot harder.
Catgirl
I remember starting using this back in February. I was terrible back then but I really think the training maps helped a lot. Thanks again for making this!

@Cannifos: Oh, sorry forgot about the post. I will check that after my exams.
@Decon082: Ah, glad to hear that! After my exams I will add new maps which you can practice on. More different mappers and some will be ranked already.

Thanks a whole lot for this thread!
It has been really helpful, though I'm still wondering how to play most of the patterns, as in which keys to press when. Am I supposed to alternate everything?

How for example should I play this: DDK
Am I supposed to alternate the two dons or simply singletap them?

Or things like: DDDDKKDDKK

Mind that I am still playing rather slow maps, but wouldn't it be a good idea to already start learning to alternate those so picking up faster maps will be easier in the future?

I personally think that it depends on the BPM's song. Since you're playing slow maps, I personally think to singletap.

I too have a question about this, so assuming your keys are mapped to dfjk, for DDKDDKDDK or something should you do jfkfjdjfk or is it acceoptable to do fjkfjkfjk even at higher levels?

anything is acceptable but I recommend jfdjfdjfd or fjkfjkfjk

in other words I recommend starting with one side for reds and the other for blues, although I personally play using only my right hand when possible

Is this still applicable to songs with a super high BPM? My hand tends to get tired or just starts to trip over the notes when i dont alternate hands for long streams of DDK's

Wonderful guide, thanks

It's helping me alot. But how do you not get eye cancer when you play taiko? I often keep messing up the colours because of the scrolling being to fast for my eyes T_T
