Forums: I've used MyAnimeList, osu! and BrickPlanet forums. I've lurked on FFR forums.
Image Boards: I've used 4Chan and Heyuri.
MAL: First posted when I joined in 2019 but didn't become active until February 2021. I've mostly hung around the Casual Discussion board and occasionally posted on Anime Discussion (but mostly avoided it along with Anime Series Discussion because those boards are filled with normie fans who treat their favorite show like a fucking religion and will dogpile on you for having a different opinion regardless if you were being civil or not).
The closing of the Current Events board and the subsequent new god-awful rules the mods made to "reduce controversial threads / flame wars" in the boards (Casual Discussion in particular) has led to the forums being way more restrictive and as a result way less fun to use (also this never put an end to OBVIOUS TROLLS in Anime Discussion). You literally can't discuss ANYTHING on MAL anymore. The mods will just lock the thread. Thanks CE and Rule 7! 🖕😃🖕 Not to mention that they can literally lock your thread for "not encouraging discussion" which is a rule so stupid it makes me question if the entire MAL team is genuinely mentally challenged. Also the mods are biased, never banning actual trolls who break the rules but always banning light joke threads instead.
Now with the new "Conversation View" that they plan on adding, the forums WILL ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DIE. In MAL's corporate attempt to turn the forums into Reddit for some god-forsaken reason, they've further proved their incompetence and total lack of care for their users.
For anyone looking to join MAL forums,
DON'T. I'm already planning to leave, I've had enough of their bullshit.
Dev Announcement thread for anyone curious as to how terrible the "Conversation View" update really is.
'Dev Announcement Thread'This dev announcement thread:
https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2096391Basically, they want to change the forum format into something like a chat room or something closely resembling Reddit or something and everyone hates it, myself included. Not just because it looks ugly, but because it also removes a lot of useful and convenient forum features (like seeing BBCode from quoting users, a MAJOR downgrade) and as a result actually makes the forums completely unusable. Also funny how the replies turn negative very quickly, starting as disapproval and then descending into "why the hell would you ever do this" (and rightfully so).
osu!: It's alright. Personally not a fan of how there are no pages or numbered posts and instead there's infinite scroll 🤮. Skipping ahead by 10 posts and to the first and last post is alright I guess but still not a fan of it. I don't feel like there's all that much to discuss here, which is why I don't have many posts.
BrickPlanet: For anyone wondering what the hell BrickPlanet even is-- well, was -- it was basically thrift store Roblox. Crappy game engine, crappy graphics, crappy gameplay, you name it. There really wasn't anything going for BP unlike, say, Blockland which was a bigger and better competitor to Roblox... aside from the site itself. The reason I made an account and stuck around the site until its inevitable demise in like 2018, is because of the marketplace and the forums. First off, the currency in BP was much like Roblox' back in the day; Tix (free) and Robux (paid). It called them Bits (free) and Credits (paid). You would get a certain amount of the free currency everyday (much like Roblox back in the day) and once you had enough you could go on the marketplace and buy cool clothes and accessories that users would make, as well as go on there and sell something yourself. I made quite a few shirts and stuff while I was on there, it was fun.
Anyways, enough about the marketplace, time to talk about the forums! The forums were very chill and the community was rather small but very pleasant to be around. No flame wars or toxic users, just a bunch of chill folk talking about stuff like the marketplace, finding friends, roleplay threads, and even about Roblox lol. There was also a list of users with the most posts and most Bits / Credits. I managed to become a semi-staple part of the community and its "lore" and made plenty of friends like this one user named Predecessor.
Quick Edit: BrickPlanet is back up lmao. It doesn't have my account or any of the other old users though. Doubt I'll be going back to it.
FFR: Was planning on using it until somehow the site forgot my password??????
4Chan: I used to lurk around that site when I was really young. Most of the time I would stumble upon it by accident and then just kind of scroll through and click on and read random shit on there on my dad's old laptop. I still lurk around there but I actually occasionally post now... anonymously, of course. Unlike most people, I fucking love this site. 4Chan is one of the only places where I am free to say any horrible things that would otherwise get me banned pretty much everywhere else. I hang around /a/, /jp/, /pol/, /h/, /e/, and most boards in the Interests section.
Heyuri: Haven't used the site all that much, but from the boards I've hung around, it's a pretty awesome place and I'm really thankful to that one MAL user who introduced me to Heyuri. Much like 4Chan, it's an image board site where the F word that rhymes with baguette is part of the normal vocabulary, although Heyuri is a bit more focused on Otaku Culture and the site as whole seems a bit more chill and civilized and less of a cesspool than 4Chan. The users there love the site and I feel like in the coming years I'll grow to love it as well.
Anyways sorry for long post lol.
