I've never been active in other forums before the osu forums (unless you count reddit, but it's a lot different to conventional forums). After becoming very active in the osu forums I started becoming more cognizant of the forums on other websites I frequented, which I found were similar in purpose and structure as the osu forums.

The osu forums, specifically Off Topic, feels like a pretty special place with a tight-nit community, yet pretty much all topical forums have an "Off Topic" subforum or something equivalent, which is kinda wild to think about. I can't imagine how many of these other forums contain amazing, tight-nit communities.

And this is just for niche forums, there are huge forums out there with millions of users, which I haven't touched outside of sometimes browsing 4chan out of curiosity.

I made this thread to see if anyone currently frequents or have frequented other forums, and about their experiences with those forums. I'm also interested in how these other forums differ from the osu forums.

Edit: I just remembered I used to visit the Toribash forums lmao, even made a few posts, but I never really got into it. I've also browsed the Smogon, but for the most part I just stuck to the "Rate My Team" section to browse through teams, or read posts about balance changes/viability rankings and stuff like that. Again, never really got into it.

This forum is my first, however, I've been kind of getting interested in the MAL forums lately. I've been trying to find time to know more about the site and plan to posting there, but osu forums mostly stop me from doing so. Maybe I'll just migrate if I ever get tired of this forum.

Holy shit I remember going on the MAL forums. I mostly just read through the threads in the "Recent Anime Discussions" part on the home page of MAL, because I thought they were really funny.

Damn they aren't that funny anymore, I've gone to deep into being a weeb.

When I was very young, I may have used the Roblox Forum, back when it was still around. I at least remember browsing it. I also used to browse v3rmillion for a bit as a kid.

Nowadays I'm mostly on osu! forums (mainly OT, G&R, Art, Video-Games and GD), but I've also been using 4chan for quite some time (unrestricted internet access introduced me to it when I was 12), and I recently found out that 'Kiwi Farms' is an interesting forum, which I plan on being more active in.

I used to use Reddit in 2019, but Reddit is shit so let's not talk about that.

I actually used to be in Amino when I was 12 to talk with other people and it was great because we were able to talk about everything and nothing, exactly like the osu forums. It was as fun as now!

i've been in two bird forums. communicating was something else due to age difference (compared to osu! forums)

hmm osu! is pretty much the only forum I go to, sometimes I go to tech forums to learn random stuff.

The first forum I joined was the forum for the coding site Scratch. Yes, Scratch has its own part of the site dedicated to forums. However, it wasn't meant to be for fun like these forums. Instead, Scratch's forums were strictly for teaching people how to code and stuff. Speaking of strict, you couldn't get away with a lot on those forums. That makes sense since it's a site full of children who think there are millions of genders (Wish I was joking but I'm not). I went by the username Lightboy77 and did some trolling on there. What? I was 12/13 at the time and for the longest time I thought that saying the worst takes ever was hysterically funny. Any who, I eventually left the forums for good and essentially left Scratch at that moment.

The next forums I was apart of was for the Roblox clone Brick Hill. Don't ask me how I know all these weird websites this young. This site was the complete opposite of Scratch. Everything was on the table and you were allowed to say pretty much anything (There were still rules of course, but you get what I mean). Being so young and exposed to some of the crazy stuff people say on there most likely isn't good for me, but I survived. I eventually left like with Scratch from a combination of being board and being hated due to drama that happened back then.

I didn't join any other forums for a good while until I found this one while playing Osu again in September 2022.

me too I first joined Scratch before, and used to be in the forums: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/, and this is my experience with my first forum. I'm not really active there, assuming that I'm having 30-ish posts. After that, a user named SpiritSK there created the osu! Full Remake project that got me into osu!. Also, Scratch forums has the infamous 60-second rule, which allows you to post after 60-seconds after you post. New Scratchers have the 120-second rule.

After that, I joined osu! forums on September 21, 2022 on the GD forum, and created my first ever post as well as first ever thread: community/forums/posts/8791727 (holy f- WHEN YOU SEE IT!!!!!). And then, on November 2, 2022, I've made this first OT! thread which is kinda nonsense to me. community/forums/topics/1669596

I recently joined the MAL Forums, and in my opinion, I'm glad the osu forums has a new look. This doesn't mean the Mal forums is bad. There are really kind people and i got comfortable with it. but the one thing that i hate, was the Mal forum's look. It is just too old and complicated. I probably get used with it in a few weeks but today it is not really my thing. And it is pretty slow on my phone. But Mal isn't bad as aforementioned. There are so many active people there. And they welcomed me faster than the osu forums.

I'm going to join MAL because I like to see people arguing to see which anime or character is better than another 😹

Nah ngl I really think that I'll see some pretty nice people especially since I watch a lot of anime!

I play runescape private servers and they usually have forums.
The Alora RSPS forums are pretty nice and I never had a negative experience.

Early 2000's forums were so lit, even tho I only lurked in those back then. If you missed it, you've missed out.

You can just read through them. It's not like there's much of a difference in the osu forums back then since it's pretty much gonna be the same fooling around that we do here in present day.

Apart from osu! forum I regularly checked MAL forum. But since MAL only have either elitists who have 100 days watch time and an average rating of 4.00/10 or die-hard fanboys, I refrain from posting there much. Other than those, I'm also on Pantip, Dek-d, Overclockzone and XDA (all Thai except XDA) but only browse them once in a looooooooooooong while, let alone posting. So actually I'm only active on osu! forum lol

welp, here's mine:

a few train forum sites which i've forgotten the name of: lots of these people on the forums were very kind and knew lots about trains and railfanning. i learned quite a bit from these people. (also i'd like to mention that on at least ONE of these, my username was "AliceTheRailfan" because my favourite touhou character was and still is Alice)

1chan: literally dead. there was only like 2 people on at a time, me included (i haven't even used it in like 20 years)

doomworld: just started using it last month, but i'm already hooked! all of these people are really kind and i've learned alot about doom modding from there. check it out yourself!

sonic retro: literally every post i made got trashed for like no reason. i bet if you tried to make a thread there, they would trash it. the rules literally say nothing about how to better yourself if your posts keep on getting trashed that was actually HELPFUL for me. those mfs really need their own "off-topic" forum (yes this is me being salty because of my posts being trashed. i'm sure if you actually knew what was quality content in the eyes of sonic retro, you'd be alright.)

osu!: erm... yeah..

thomas forum site which i forgot: half of the users were 12 year old boys and 16 year old girls. there was barely any adults there. complete warzone. but i loved it. i loved the arguments where 2 or more users would argue about wether it was appropriate to call the number 8 locomotive "Duck" or "Montague". since i was a thomas lore master, i always rooted for those who said Montague (on this one, i was called either reimutherailfan or marisatherailfan or reisentherailfan this was when i just started getting into touhou btw)

so yeah forum sites are awesome!!

AHA that's what I used to do. Watch a fuck ton of anime and increase my days watched while purposely giving shit scores to most anime so I could look down on the people who have "lower" stats than mine.

It's a good thing I've changed that a long while ago, now I just watch and rate whatever I want.
