Any chance links could be fixed in bancho to make them hyperlinked in IRC clients?

A) remove the brackets that surround links.

or

B) Add a space between the surrounding brackets so it looks like this [ http:// ], instead of [http://].

Thanks.

Why aren't you helpful. In virtually every application, adding any character immediately before a link is going to make it invalid and not hyperlinked.

http://www.google.com

See? Even the forum fails. Lets fix that too, shall we?

My client parses links just fine, even with [ prepended.

If you client is advanced enough you can filter osu! hyperlinks into fancy ones.

So lets limit clickable hyperlinks to only those with advanced IRC clients as well as the know-how to be able to configure such advanced clients to work, all instead of simply tweaking the format in which bancho announces links?

-rolls eyes-

Oh. Lets us make a FAQ for every IRC client, detailing how to accomplish this. Actually, how about a website, the likes of portforward.com?

Sorry for the exaggeration, but c'mon now.

And also, what of the folks that don't actually use IRC clients and instead use browser plugins, such as ChatZilla? Lets force them to acquire an advanced client simply for the sole purpose of being able to click links?

Again, I'm sorry. I'm simply proving a point.

Because ChatZilla totally isn't an IRC client.

osu! chat belongs in osu!. You should be happy you're able to access it using most other IRC clients.

What client do you use? If it's one of the popular ones (mIRC, IceChat, X-Chat, irssi, ...) it'll probably be configurable to the point where you can correct hyperlinking.

(If it's open-source, recompile if needed. =D)

Sure, lets have everyone recompile their clients just for this. What is it with you? lol.

I don't usually use other clients, but I think that if links given out by Bancho contain [ ], then they might as well have spaces added, because I can't think of a good reason not to. It's literally a few extra characters of code, but the brackets look a lot nicer than just having the URL.

Though there are the special links that use [ ] and ( ) to display text different from the link URL, and for those, you're on your own if you're not connecting through osu!.

This is what he's talking about. >_>

And I don't think users will appreciate having to type spaces in order to make the links parse correctly in the osu! client. So osu! could be made to support both, or I suppose the server could parse it somehow...
I'm a huge fan of not tampering user input. (Sometimes I keep an option on, such as auto-linkifying URL's on these forums, because I like it, though.)

But you know, if all else fails, copy-paste the link.
Yup. I do this if some URL doesn't linkify properly somewhere (which isn't common in my setup nowadays...).

I support this feature, even though I use an ssh client for my irc which does not make clickable links. I know what a pain it is for users who are used to clickable links to see links that are not autolinked just because of brackets or something else in front of the link. It's a minor modification, doesn't have any bad side effects and helps a bunch of users.

@gemi - if you use putty, get [lucky:a6d39]puttytray[/lucky:a6d39]. It will make links clickable.

Also, I fixed this yesterday. It will go up in next Bancho build (I opted for adding spaces for the time being - we'll see how it looks).

Thanks for tthe tip, but if I'd want that behavior I'd just use nutty which is basically putty with clickable links. I'm avoiding clickable links on purpose on irc.
peppy
puttytray uses the nutty patch, but doesn't fail at life.
