I've been playing with no mousepad on osu since the start, and my desk feels smooth enough for me to move the mouse easily but I'm not sure for a mousepad, I haven't tried it out yet.

All my plays, top plays etc...
Are with no mousepad, I got this far without it.

-Should I move to a mousepad?
-Does it feel relatively better than using a desk?
kujubuo
depends on u
Almost
If you have some spare cash lying around you could try it and see if it works for you.

There is two type of mouse pad (i think)
1: speed type
2: control type

Speed type have less friction and you can move your mouse faster, mostly player who have low sens use it.

Control type have friction so its much easier to control, for high sens players

But for osu its better to use speed type mouse pad no matter what sens you use. Why? Because you need fast movement and fast reaction time.

Does quality matter: Yes, if you bought a cheap speed type mouse pad then it will lose its smoothness very early so i suggest using a decent brand mouse pad at least.

If you are comfortable without mouse pad and you are not harming your desk + mouse then its totally fine to use it. Though I do suggest buying one because who knows you feel more comfortable with mouse pad

I never tried not using a mousepad before.

I think using a mousepad gives you more control since it has friction.

You will have a hard time switching to tablet

When I used mouse I didn't use a mousepad at all and I was perfectly fine with it, I would assume you would to as long as the desk is smooth enough and isn't like "rough" for your mouse to slide across. I switched to tablet purely on preference.

People don't use mousepads?

If you have the option to get it, then surely yes.
It will really improve your experiences while using the mouse.
