disable your widescreen storyboard toggles (only insane has it disabled)
also if you want, 00:04:781 - add a red line here for a stanza reset, so nightcore mod can have its sound effects set at the right time

I think it's difficult to say since 00:21:239 (1,2) isn't exactly following vocals, so starting the 3 there on the red tick feels a bit weird to me. If anything I'd change the entire combo to a different rhythm. I find the current rhythm to be pretty nice so I'd like more opinions.

    This is just amazing on so many levels. Your use of the 1/4 (3) slider here brings about a change in speed which adds a unique flavor to the pattern. It also forces the motion towards (4) to be smooth and curved, rather than sudden and angular. Usually, there'd be the danger here of the player simply treating the pattern as an extended triangle and moving through (2-3-4) in a series of quick, straight jumps. But the slight curvature and the 1/4 slide of (3) encourages a more fluid motion through the pattern. The result is a beautiful S-shaped flow on (2-3-4-5), which plays smoothly, satisfyingly, and uniquely.

    The impact of the (6-1) downwards stroke is enhanced by your use of exaggerated spacing; (2-3-4-5-6) were spaced relatively uniformly, and so the increased spacing at (6-1) feels much more dramatic. This is a perfect finish for the pattern, combo, and musical measure all at once, and the finish hitsound only adds to the dramatic effect.

    As a whole, the way this pattern flows is just completely outstanding. As a bonus, it looks clean and organized; the (1-4) stack as well as the formation of the (4-5-6) triangle gives structure to the pattern, and lends itself well to aesthetic stability.

    The sharp reverse at (6-1) gives the impact at (6) more contrast, which really does fit the music well, as does your choice of hitsounding.

  4. 00:52:912 (1,2,3,1,2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4,5,6) - I love this. The broad sweep across to the right side of the screen and then swinging back to the left plays extremely well and feels incredibly smooth; overall it's a great start to the kiai. Especially at 00:54:787 (1,2,3,4), I think most mappers would have chosen to curve the (4) slider in the other direction:
    This is a very common blanket pattern in modern mapping styles, and it creates a more circular flow (sort of like a φ shape) on (1-2-3-4) when considering it in isolation. But the way you've curved the (4) slider is perfect for preparing for the sweeping motion across to the other side via 00:56:037 (5,6) directly after. The direction of the curvature in the image above just wouldn't have been suitable for something like that.

    In general, your 1/1 slider usage throughout the kiai is wonderful. The large sliders guide the player into making broad strokes with their cursor here, and it feels almost like painting a picture (especially with a tablet). The circular flow is powerful where you've chosen to use it.

  5. 01:28:745 (3) - <3 this hitsounding. Have you thought about SV changes here? Something like 1.20x on this (3) slider alone would be slight enough to be easily readable but still different enough that an attentive player would be able to feel a slight change in pace. I think it might be a good way to add some subtle impact to this section. Another thing you could experiment with is 0.80x here, and then 1.20x or 1.10x at 01:29:162 (4) for more contrast. There's absolutely nothing wrong with how this section currently is, though.

  6. 01:29:578 (6) - Consider drum-hitclap or drum-hitfinish here.

  7. 02:15:203 (2,3,4,6,1,2) - The spacing here seems a bit inconsistent. The (2) and (6) sliders are parallel but the angles of the 02:15:516 (3,4) and 02:16:349 (1,2) stacks aren't; (3,4) is directly below its slider but (1,2) is sort of to the left. (3,4) is spaced at 0.88x distance snapping whereas (1,2) is spaced at 1.02x. The 0.88x seems more consistent with the spacing of later triples in this map.

  8. 02:18:745 - I think the start of this second kiai lacks some of the impact of the first. Personally I don't like 02:19:162 (2,3,4) too much; I think it halts the flow for too long. I guess it's okay for contrast, but I don't really think it works here. The reason why the start of the first kiai was so great in my opinion was that the first slider at 00:54:787 (1) marked the continuation of a sweeping movement that started previously at 00:53:953 (2,3,4,5). On the other hand, 02:19:787 (1) isn't the continuation of a movement, it's a quick jump from the stall at 02:19:162 (2,3,4). Maybe you could experiment with this object rhythm:

    Something like this makes the flow in this section more active for the player, which I think is important in capturing the arpeggiation in the instrumentation here.

  9. 02:46:453 - The 1.10x SV here is a nice touch. I was just about to suggest an SV increase here, and then I took a look at your timing points and realized that you already had an SV increase here! That said, maybe the increase is TOO subtle? You definitely want the player to feel the change in speed, because the violin in this section is just so well-suited for it. Though maybe I'm just insensitive to these sorts of things. Or maybe the reason I wanted to suggest an SV increase is because I actually subconsciously felt the 1.10x?

You've already captured some of the falling action in the music by decreasing your object spacing, and I think this would be complemented nicely with SV deceleration. 1.05x on (3) and 1.00x on (4), for example, could lead well into the tight spacing at 03:06:037 (4,1) imo.

The hitsounding is really great; I love the use of drum-hitnormal as your choice for the snare sound. Its subtlety suits the feeling of the music well, but it's different enough from the regular soft-hitnormal sound that you can definitely tell it's there during play. You've also done a fantastic job with drum-hitclaps and drum-hitfinishes, not a lot of mappers are attentive enough to the music to know to include these sounds on their objects.

The slow SV makes the map more relaxed as a whole, and at times your longer sliders flow so well that it feels as if my cursor is melting into the map. That said, I think that my biggest concern for this map is that the SV is slow enough that every 1/2 slider can be treated as a hold; the sliders are short enough that slider leniency allows for players to 300 every 1/2 slider without having to move their cursor from the slider starts. The map is still incredibly fun even if you don't move on any of the sliders, but in my opinion, the smoothness and melty quality of the map really is best experienced by tracing out the slider paths. It's great that you've chosen to use so many 1/4 double stacks under your sliders, because this encourages even the laziest of players to move through the sliders since frequently there's something that they need to click at the end.

Overall this is an amazing map. The flow is just absolutely insane at some parts. Object placement always seems to make sense and visually captures the contours of the melodies. This map isn't obsessed with geometry or strict distance snapping, and this gives it a more natural and free-flowing feel, suitable for the mood of the song. A lot of maps play like a well-constructed building, very architecturally and a bit predictably. This isn't one of those maps; this map feels spontaneously designed, something that just sort of emerged naturally. It's unique in that regard from a lot of maps out there today, and I think that the osu community in general would benefit from having a map like this one available for ranked play.

Sometimes the red tick rhythms are a bit confusing in this map but that's unavoidable due to a lot of the emphasis points in the song falling on red ticks. I think you've mapped the rhythms well, considering. I don't see any problems here.

This map is solid overall, with stable flow and very readable rhythms. It's a very well-designed Hard that isn't too difficult, but doesn't feel like just a harder Normal either. The frequent triple 1/4 stacks are great and help to keep the map interesting to play through.

    Great idea but I think I'd like to keep it this way. The basic motion suggested here is enough imo and I kind of want to keep it basic.

    Thanks for pointing it out. I think I'll stick with the 1.1 here. It makes it the same as the kiai for a little speed boost, I think going 1.2 might complicate it and with how old this map is, I don't want to do that.

    I love your idea but I'm sorry it just doesn't seem like something I'd map, and I'm pretty fond of the current symmetry transition.

The map is still incredibly fun even if you don't move on any of the sliders, but in my opinion, the smoothness and melty quality of the map really is best experienced by tracing out the slider paths. It's great that you've chosen to use so many 1/4 double stacks under your sliders, because this encourages even the laziest of players to move through the sliders since frequently there's something that they need to click at the end.

Overall this is an amazing map. The flow is just absolutely insane at some parts. Object placement always seems to make sense and visually captures the contours of the melodies. This map isn't obsessed with geometry or strict distance snapping, and this gives it a more natural and free-flowing feel, suitable for the mood of the song. A lot of maps play like a well-constructed building, very architecturally and a bit predictably. This isn't one of those maps; this map feels spontaneously designed, something that just sort of emerged naturally. It's unique in that regard from a lot of maps out there today, and I think that the osu community in general would benefit from having a map like this one available for ranked play.

  1. 01:16:245 (3,4,5) - This rhythm feels sort of awkward since it doesn't match the vocals. There are vocal syllables at 01:17:078 and 01:17:495 but you skip over both. Personally I think that something like this works better:


    Good suggestion but I feel I want to keep this rhythm since it fits with the crash on the head of the 3 and the holding feeling that I'm getting from the music, likely from the strings there. Also did the same/similar things in the other kiais.

  2. 01:35:203 (4) - Consider moving to 306,368. I think this looks better if it's linearly aligned with the (3) slider.
    It's just a preference of mind, I like a more organic placement.

Sometimes the red tick rhythms are a bit confusing in this map but that's unavoidable due to a lot of the emphasis points in the song falling on red ticks. I think you've mapped the rhythms well, considering. I don't see any problems here.
