I wouldn't call the show overrated nor the application...
The anime is good, the story is exciting, I like the way they draw and I also like the music and sound.
I haven't heard anything about the app before. Sorry.

Can some people not jump on the bandwagon when they feel even the slightest nuance of the show compromising their silly expectations ? (Or whatever it is that urges them to label it as overrated)
..The answer is no, but hey.
I also think that term needs to be used less-often because it is jarring for people wanting to try new shows, as well as being obnoxious.
People state they get goosebumps while listening & watching the opening of SnK.

The app seems fun, but I've seen plenty of "put object XYZ to wherever spot you like and call it an original app".
Sure, the app itself is only for fans of SnK and probably lure the wallet of those by adding a "purchase more from-a-manga-and-cut-objects so that you have fun and we have fun with your money"
Nonetheless, for someone who charges for extra "bad" cut images to get fans of the series pay for their content seems a bit unfair.
If you do some fanservice, do it with style and offer the FULL, freaking app for free. and I'm not certainly complaining about the price, it's about service here and my god. that guy seriously need to get it done right.

Oh, and I would suggest the one who made the app to offer more but not "all" objects available to use for free and only allow some of the "rare" and "good" ones for purchase (all at once) for some $$$.
I know creating apps takes time and in-app purchases will balance it out- but seriously, that guy needs to build up the trust of the fanbase on his favor first and THEN start offering the shit out of his products as DLC.
