How do I talk about ranks or something similar in English? Most of the time I have no clue if the other guy means the rank itself or the number of the rank when he uses words like higher/lower or increases/decreases.
Is rank 100 lower or higher than rank 200? Or is there some other simple way to avoid confusion?

if you're referring to a player you'd generally use "he's a really high rated player" to reference the fact that the person is a high rank (even though they're technically lower in terms of number)
