Example would be if you're right now going through 9-10am and tell someone to "do something this Sunday", as the day has "just begun" you'd be referencing indirectly the currenty Sunday as it's not in the past.
Though, if people are living in different timezones it's better to add some more details as some others are either in the past or future in terms of regional time.
