Elfen Lied is and will forever remain the most overrated/overhyped anime. It's "worth" 2/10 yet people rate it 7/10 or higher. (these are marks taken from a Polish site < some reviewers gave a 9/10...>)
some arguments:
- charas are like robots, in anime producers do their best as to make characters as close to human beings as possible. In EL we see robots with "I Love You!" function implemented in them. Their behaviour is so fkin illogical, I wonder how the author DID NOT notice what shit his/her charas are saying/doing. I think I don't have to show you any examples, the most pathetic scenes are obvious.
- The beginning looks really good, but later we see a love story done by talking alone. Also - some kind of inn becomes a home for various (FEMALE) characters, is this a fkin Love Hina? It's already 9th or 10th episode when the story tells about sth interesting (diclonius plot), it's kind of late for a 13 ep-long series.
- Gore - it was made for the public as to provoke the hype (it worked, sigh..). Those scenes were funny rather than terrific. (blood spurting from places it shouldn't)
- OST, which is so praised because of Lilium. Ok, this is one tune (I didn't like it, who cares it's in Latin) and is repeated via numerous adaptations (like 10 or more, gimme a break), the remaining 3 (?) songs are unnoticeable (they suck anyway, so..)
I wouldn't say Shingeki no Kyojin is SOOO overhyped (and it's NOT overrated), why?
- The idea for the series is unique, it makes some part of the hype (a flood of fan-made videos)
- The series is actually very good! Has some cons, but if it keeps the pace it's gonna be a strong 9/10. And most importantly, it's not over yet.\
- Charas are very likeable
