I don't play much Touhou, but I've played the first and second games. I'm not even that good at them.
I don't have a favorite game but I do love the song Flandre's Theme!! I'd like to play though any recommendations for my first time playing!!!
I just started getting into Touhou, so at the moment it would be Touhou 6.

Blooming Chaos 2 & Touhou 6 currently. Mainly got into them because the songs I found of them on Osu.

I've downloaded quite a few Touhou games from Moriya Shrine but I buy them from Steam if possible.
I've played a few PC-98 ones with emulators, most frequently th03 東方夢時空 ～ Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream on anex86e1
My first Touhou game was actually not an official game. It was 東方幕華祭 TouHou Makuka Sai ~ Fantastic Danmaku Festival made by 东方幕华祭制作组 on Steam. I still love it, the music gave me some great memories.
My second game was th15 東方紺珠伝 〜 Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, when people told me "yea th15 is easy" then realizing what hell Clownpiece unleashed on me. And Junko's last spellcard in Lunatic is just impossible, more than 150 attempts and still couldn't pass it in Pointdevice (stuck there lmao no bombs)
Then I got to play more of the official games, also games like Touhou Luna Nights. Although for the official games I play them mostly for the music. And finally, my favorite official game is probably 東方紅魔郷 ～ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. This game holds the most remarkable soundtracks for me (although other games too). And Sakuya.
SPEAKING OF MUSIC-

After some thought, I had played a couple more Touhou games.
Any fighting gamers are recommended to play Hisoutensoku with the -REWIRED- community mod. I happened to play Soku a couple of times.

Only played 1 Touhou game and that was Mountain of Faith. I listen to ZUN religiously but Danmaku is so-so in my opinion.

I've played 6,7,9,11,12, and 15. I prefer 11 (masochism) but I also enjoy playing 15 from time to time. I'm not a master at em but I try and kickass when I play.

The first game I played of touhou was the embodiment of scarlet devil and I really like phantasmagoria of flower view. Also the fanmade anime based off touhou is also insanely good for something that's fanmade, theres two of them that I know - memories of phantasm and the summer daydream one I think that's what it's called

I'm pretty sure it only provides the .torrent files and no direct download, so the only option is to torrent I'm pretty sure. Using qbit and a vpn so I don't get screwed over (i live in USA). Took like an hour and a half to download like 3% and I really didn't want to wait like 2 days so I gave up.
