So I don't know for you, but I'm the one who uses the the Universal Audio Offset, since I'm using Bluetooth headphones. Although, since I lack of some beat sense, I have hard time to feel the tick noise matches the beat.
My suggestion is along the lines of Stepmania's offset wizard; play a simple beat in the background, and let the user tap some beat. The program figures out the offsets through a number of samples, and the player exit the wizard when this one feels good about the offset. I think it would be useful~
